I genuinely couldn't decide - although series 1 definitely isn't in my top 3.

There are just so many epic characters in each series and Atkinson is superb in each of 2-3-4.

It must be the funniest comedy series ever?

Favourite scene is probably from 3 where the Prince and Blackadder trade places and Wellington comes for tea.

"NONSENSE! I barely touched him! This is a hard punch."

From the implications I pick up from this: http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com/brilliantbutc... - it seems that American telly works in long 'seasons' and neither any Blackadder series nor Fawlty Towers could be made to fit into schedules as a result. They seem to have been discovered by a discerning few on DVD in later years though.

Cheers, that's quite interesting. smile

Blackadder is massively popular in Serbia, in fact they have made their own version of it (Crna Guja). Only Fools and Horses is probably the biggest ever TV show there too. They love British comedy, and music come to that.

Third for me.
'The Queen Of Spain's Beard' is another good one. "Help! In 24 hours I'm going to be married to a walrus." Brian Blessed is good value too.
Jim Broadbent steals the show as the Spanish translator hehe
+1

Was going to say the same.

Remember a documentary with I think Richard Curtis, where he said that JB managed to get the emphasis completely counter intuitive and how well it worked.
Again.

Funnily enough, both Blackadder and Fawlty Towers are much-loved in Germany. They're put out quite late at night sometimes, and always in English with German subtitles rather than dubbed, so they don't lose the way with language the actors have.

Has to be two for me, followed by four, then three then one.

One is better than people realise but still not as good as the others. I used to not like number three but it is actually a very good series. Hugh Laurie is brilliant in it, I didn't appreciate that first time but it will still always be two smile

All terrific but I think the second one was the best. I don't know why people don't like the first one that much but each to their own. I thought Blessed was excellent.

By the way, the poll is missing an option - Blackadder: The Cavalier Years (one-off).

2431 For me, although 4 manages to do hilarious and yet adds one of the greatest dusty room moments on film. I find it impossible to go on trips to the Somme without thinking about that episode. That episode probably did a lot of charity fund raising for the British Legion.

I voted for series four, mainly because of episodes like General Hospital and Byyyyeeee and Private Plane which I thought were brilliant.

But series 3 follows VERY closely behind, on account of Hugh Laurie.

Never got on with series 1 at all, don't think I even bothered watching every episode.

Christmas Carol has it's moments.

He's said it a few times now but in 4 the reason for Melchett's "Baaah" when he sat down or moved around was that he had really bad piles, it was only known to a few of them during the filming hehe
