From reading the interweb storm after the show was first aired I thought it transpired that all the cakes were actually bought in and not made be her at all.
Ah, that answers a lot. I didn't bother to read the reports. I'm still wondering why they were getting bookings when the whole town must have known their food was crap. I suspect the "diners" when GR was there were actually actors arranged for the show.
If I remember, it says at the end of the show in the small print something about the customers knowing they're appearing on the show.

I watched this last night - they are both nuts. I did the google and saw her twitter account/ their web site etc.
Its all a bit too mental though. I think they might have just discovered a totally new business angle....

Kitchen Nightmares USA - I always thought this felt like one of the most staged shows on TV. Compared to the original UK one it always felt so over the top, and every episode I saw followed exactly the same formula. Thsi episode sounds interesting though...
My thoughts exactly, but trust me, this one is worth watching.

Restaurant going down pan.
GR goes in says food is crap.
Owner has argument with GR.
GR walks round block.
Owner comes to senses.
Everything works out, kichen has slight blip, gets back on track.
Customers love new food/decor.
The End.Repeat.

Usually, I would agree - but this episode is worth watching...

The situation regards tipping was a bit strange, bordering on illegal I would've thought?

if the food and service were as bad as the show made out , would tips be offered ?

I think the service (in purely service terms) was ok, it was the pair who own the place, and you can't blame the waiting/bussing staff for that.
It's in the States don't forget, where tipping works a bit different. A waiter/ress can bring you a pile of poop, but as long as they do it with a smile and ask you if everything's ok or not, they've done their bit.
I did like it when Ramsay tipped his waitress directly, conspicuously and deliberately within view of the owner.

Any clips from this episode? I saw it but am trying to explain to my bro how awesome it was. The first five mins or so when the guys are tryin to leave and the old guy goes apoplectic with rage...

You can watch the US version here, should be basically the same except intro/outro and the voiceover:

I've been watching Ramsays Hotel Hell, you must see the first 2 episodes (2 parter), fantastic viewing! Ramsay digs into the owner in a way only Ramsay can.

I saw what you did there. Very good.

Particularly appreciated Ramsay touch with the conspicuous tipping of the waitress.

Can't stand the bloke normally but maybe it was because these were so unhinged.

The desserts and cakes. How can anyone who has so little clue about food and cooking especially taste combinations manage to make those. Bought in surely.

The mental doesn't do it justice, must have had a magic pelvis to make him stick with that.

Use to watch this, until I got fed up with the "formula".

Just happened onto this episode the other night...

...Bloody Hell!

I was seriously worried several times that a row of knives was just there on the wall...
