So the dead who returned have been rounded up by the dead dead and now the flooded village has returned also?

Surely the dead could of broken into the helping hand?

Erm...

What was any of it about? Why did any of them come back? Why is the town flooded? What happened to all the police, and all the zombies?

And serge, and his mother, and so on. WTF was that actually about? Seemed to have massively lost its way to me since the start of the series....

Typically french ending...nobody is satisfied...not the dead, not the living, and clearly not the viewers.

They ruined a brilliant series with an ending that didn't tell us anything.

Merde alors, enfin je peux m'enjoindre a la conversation.

Why was Serge left behind? Why didn't they take Adele?

Good point that. No one much likes Serge do they?

Was Julie dead? I ask as the dead took her, but then they took Camille's mum but left Adele? For weeks now I've had these questions running round & like people have said, it leaves you hanging too much.

I knew it, another French production with no resolution. When will I learn?

That article sums it up better than I could describe it. Frustrating, but still very enjoyable!

Is apocalypse really the French translation of revelations?

Just watched it now, and I thought that was a really good end to the series, leaving bits to carry on with for series 2. clap

Personal take on it...

Julie dead? I don't think so, but she went to stay with Victor (she's his 'fairy' from the book to look after him)
Camille's mum went with her for similar reasons I think, couldn't part with her daughter after losing her before in the bus crash, her own life is gone to crap with Jerome and Pierre, Lena is old enough to look after herself.
Thomas told Adele to go inside, she didn't know they wanted her/her baby until she was locked in with her daughter. Adele herself isn't dead, but the baby's father is dead Simon. Series 2, the horde come back to take her?
Serge, Toni, their mum. The horde didn't see them so didn't know they were there. Series 2, they are the dead on the living side, possibility of Toni coming back as a returned.
Going by the gunshots, silence, then banging on the shutters, the police, Thomas included, are dead or taken.

All plausible. I suppose for the purposes of the continuing story, Serge is a character to keep around - also a link with the dead perhaps.

The reason I mention Julie as distinct from Camille's mum (forget her name, sorry) is that Julie thought Serge had killed her & went as far as attempting suicide but bailed. I think going with Victor was partly her feelings for Victor & partly her own curiosity. Lucy is interesting. Dead, clairvoyant & de facto leader. I imagine we'll see her again.

Warning: contains spoilers for The Returned series one (and though mostly speculative, potentially for series two as well).

what massive let-down that was

no answer, no resolution of anything, just a vague "see you next year sometime"

you'd never get anywhere with that as a book or a film

Without getting too biblical, the following is the full verse of Revelations that the line at the Helping Hand was taken from. It seems quite relevant, particularly line 8 in relation to Serge....

21 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”[a] for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’[b] or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
