Conversely The Mist has a much better ending on film than in the book.
Then the book must have been dire. The ending of the mist is just ste. The second he said only have 5 bullets or whatever I knew exactly what would happen. Just so cliched.

How many times has that ending been done before?

Would like to know the answer to that too, I'm struggling to think of any other film that ends in such a depressing way. The book/short story ended before that scene, although if I remember correctly the gun/bullets hint was quite obvious.

No, I meant in the book everyone lives, in the film everyone dies (well, nearly). In the book the parallel dimension is contained, in the film it isn't... there are several other differences than just a gun and 5 bullets. But as you haven't read the book you won't know how else it differs from the film, will you?

His novels don't generally translate well?
I think some of our best ever films are Stephen King novels personally.
Shawshank, Green Mile, Stand by Me, The Shining, Misery- just to name a few off the top of my head
Actually, you make a very good point.

I guess I was thinking about the likes of Tommyknockers and Dreamcatcher which were pish. There are far more adaptations which made for good viewing, so I'm happy to retract my previous statement.

I think the confusion is that I don't think his horror books translate particularly well. His writing skill can make a mildly ludicrous concept come to life and be almost believable in a way that film makers haven't really managed to do.
His stories that don't involve excess sci-fi concepts seem to work incredibly well.

I've set this to record tonight, incase I miss it/go to bed instead/forget hehe . Interested to see what its like though. This, along with Love/Hate, makes 2 things I'm interested in on Channel 5 though. The last time I watched anything on Channel 5, Suzi Perry was on the Gadget Show.

As I'm up to date with the USA showings, I have to say - I've given up on it paperbag

Too many changes from the book that are annoying me; and more importantly I'm not involved with the characters - they haven't made me care if any of them live or die; let alone why the Dome has appeared; will continue to obtain them & maybe sit & watch them again when I have time on my hands & nowt else to watch

But we heard from Stephen himself he'd always had this feeling that he was dissatisfied at the end of the book
So apparently SK didn't like the end either -

held my interest quite tempted to see it online rather than wait each week for C5 to put adverts in every 10 minutes

I did like it as a first episode lastnight, I'll keep with it. I haven't read the book, so the story is new to me (Simpsons Movie excepted wink ).

Very enjoyable, the pacing was spot on and the story is intriguing. I'll definitely be watching the rest!
