Yeah, I had the same issues with S4, then allowed s5 to stack and deleted them all before watching, just watched the midnight screenings from s3 (lovejoy) onwards and it was rewarded with good viewing, s5 is very good, goes a bit dark, and the dynamic changes. It's quite melancholic. Ray always manages get a weird case and he always manages to sort it, but it doesn't feel formulaic. I also thought all the different strands coming together near the end of s5 was really good writing, on par with thebest flms/series arcs
so watch it, s6e1ray had all of s5 to get into that position

RD sometimes dispenses wth storylines just to move the narrative along, it's not that big a deal though and I do forgive it because it is so good.
I do still keep wishing for a sniper to take his daughter out, at least we've got minimal son time. WOuldn't mind a name drop from that boxer kid from last series, nice to see the boxing brother get a decent story, Ray is class as normal, this new development with the cops (NYPD as dirty as the Met? ) is great.
Also like the Higgins/Magnum vibe with his new 'boss'.
I miss, Arri.
the level up stuff for the boxer, is that real?

Was there any reason given as to how everybody has suddenly relocated en masse to NYC given it appears to continue on directly from the previous Season?
The real world answer is that the show needed a reboot and so much had gone down S1-5 that it made sense for the Donvoans to relocate. As for the plot answer It's a bit convenient, but Abby was in NYC for treatment, Ray went with, when she died he tried to top himself by jumping into the East River, a Cop saved him, they became friends during his recovery. He stays.
Sam, who he used to work for in LA had previously relocated to NYC for reasons unknown.
Daughter was already there I think, dating the boy who Ray nearly killed to save her in the first place.
Why Boxer is there is anyone's guess, but I seem to recall S5 ended in the usual Ray Donovan clusterfk so maybe it was time to get out of dodge. He seems to have managed to establish a new gym that's more popular than the last in about 4 weeks.
Black Brother is there to make a film with the actor who accidentally decapitated someone and ended up in Mickey's pocket.
MIckey is there to rob Sam / Black Brother.
Bunchy is there because he's an idiot and followed Mickey there.

Only the boxer has relocated, that all happened in the last series when he sold the LA gym and set up with his hot new stars, the young blaCK KID who's dad came back, and whom we haven't seen in s6. I mentioned him a while back, Ray can live anywhere, his life fell apart with the death of his wife and the the starlet last series, he had to sell his sex flat to move, he then took his emplyee (which was plot easy)Bunchy still lives in LA, as does the producer one. The daughter moved last series and 'fell in love' with some mook then

What the fk happened to his car? Jesus Christ what a pos, they even sell these ugly barges in the UK... for £72 k. Seriously. You’d have to be lobotomised! CLS was way better.Hopefully is just a short term rental...
I was sure they'd cancel this after the end of the last series. Really had gone off the rails and miles away from what it should be.
I have to say this reset in NY is much better than I thought. Its watchable again - apart from that hideous CTS - seriously Ray, get back to that big 'ol CLS.
The problem is when you have a legend like John Voight involved the show runner/producers/writers can't/don't want to kill him off. So we as still subjected to Mickey's comic escapades now with Bunchy in tow.
FWIW I think they'd be better off if Ray sets himself up as some sort of private fixer in the next series. It will be interesting to see how he deals with Susan Sarandon for the rest of this series though.

I stopped watching Ray midway through S4, didn't watch S5 at all and it ended up being spoilt for me anyway.
Now season 6 is on I started watching it, got really into it and after about half an hour turned it off and realised is should probably go back and watch the end of S4 and all of S5.
Is it worth going back? As I've heard some bad reviews?
Or shall I just continue with S6?
I don't want any major characters and plots appearing and me not knowing wtf is going on.
