Except in the last few movies where he had this weird moral code thing going on.

I won't want to spoil the comics for anybody that hasn't read them, but Batman does a lot of things in The Dark Knight Returns that he wouldn't usually do and it makes him a much darker character. It's what finally brings him head to head with Superman.
I feel it's the other way around. Batman is still within the bounderies of the law of the US he knew as a younger man. ANd the US has become a twaeked 1984 job. In that comic SUperman is basically what would happen to SUpes in real life (I think), that he'd simply be a pawn of the US President, which is heavily pushed in all the comics, but all the comics (and old films) always have the US President as some paragon of virtue. In TDKR it's Ronnie Regan....ahem... biggrin
So Batman is the one who has it 'right' and the slightly authoritarian US government and it's heavy-handed 'justice' with it's private God has it wrong.

From what I've read, the building mashing in Man of Steel will have repercussions for SUperman.

It was a fine counter-point to the Watchmen which became big at the same time.

Ruthless? He could have killed the joker by running him over but didn't anybody who subsequently died is down to him.

Actually when the cat woman was being shot at and he was by everybody in that roof he could have ended it all then with a few belt feds on his aircraft but oh no he doesn't kill people.

He's a pussy.

Yeah. I always thought Batman should be like the Punisher.

In the early days, he carried a gun. biggrin

So Superman is bad because some buildings came down while he was saving humanity.. And Batman has to stop him. But to do that he has to become bad. And dress like Iron Man.

I thought the same. I really liked what Zack Snyder did with Watchmen and I'm sure the fight scenes will be explosive, but it looks pretty contrived to me. I haven't read or watched Man of Steel however.

From the trailer the plot appears to be: Superman trashes the city whilst saving it in Man of Steel, Wayne gets pissed off and is convinced the absolute power will go to his head and tries to kill him. Meanwhile Lex Luthor gives the US govt the means to kill Superman.

I think it looks fantastic and a refreshing change of tone from the endless stream of Marvel movies (which I do enjoy).

Affleck has proven himself to be an accomplished actor and director over the last few years (watch The Town if you're still unconvinced) so doesn't worry me in the slightest, Cavill is spot on as Superman and as far as I can tell the plot makes sense. In fact the only thing that still bothers me a little is Eisenberg as Lex Luthor but I'll happily be proven wrong.

Not sure why this seems to be getting such a level of pessimism on here personally, although I never understood the dislike for Man of Steel either.

Because we've seen Man of Steel, Sucker Punch and Daredevil maybe?

300 and Watchmen are better but they don't live up to the source material. Affleck is pretty good in his later films but he needs a good director to get the best out of him.

Avengers 2 was a bit of a dud but the directors Marvel chooses for its films aren't Michael Bay knockoffs.
