Because we've seen Man of Steel, Sucker Punch and Daredevil maybe?

300 and Watchmen are better but they don't live up to the source material. Affleck is pretty good in his later films but he needs a good director to get the best out of him.

Avengers 2 was a bit of a dud but the directors Marvel chooses for its films aren't Michael Bay knockoffs.
This guy gets it.

Look at man of steel, it's an amalgam of the last real input nolan had, padded out by snyder. The film is disjointed and inconsistent in the approach it takes to real character and emotion (nolan) and large scale destruction/action set pieces (snyder).

I'm a huge fan of batman, properly lifetime obsessed, but i'm really struggling to get into this one. Go back and look at dark knight, any bit of it, then watch that new trailer again. It's not in the same league.

I've watched the trailer now.
I enjoyed it. The only thing spoiling it for me is the 5 year old Lex Luthor.

So, Batman is in retirement? I like this, like how Affleck looks too, like the Paulie Walnut wings.

Don't agree that Avengers 2 was a dud, I liked it, and "Red" as ultron. I also liked MOS... Ben aflick is good in a lot of films, I know there Daredevil was a blip, but you have Gone girl, Argo, The Town, State of play and quite a few more which I probably would get shot down with liking.

Everyone was up in arms that Bale was going to be rubbish, and to be honest I liked him but my mrs can't watch any of the bat trilogy without laughing at his voice... I try to defend it and give up.

I for one am looking forward to it, think they have the proportions of batman better in it, in the comics he was always very muscular...avec large chin.

What you mean is he agrees with you. smile

Totally disagree with the Michael Bay knockoff comments regarding Snyder (Bay hasn't made a film in 20 years that is anywhere near as good as the majority of Snyders work) and Affleck has been consistently good for quite some time now whether directed by someone else or himself so the Daredevil argument is a lazy one.

Dark Knight, whilst a great crime thriller, was not a superhero movie in any shape or form and is not a valid comparison. I also think it's been put on a lofty pedestal that closer inspection doesn't justify and is inferior in many ways to Batman Begins (take away Ledger's amazing performance and what are you left with?).

On the Marvel directors question, I think they've had more misses than hits personally. Iron Man 2 and 3 were both poor as was Captain America. Thor and Thor 2 were passable and I'm hearing very average things about Ant-man. Both Avengers films were overhyped by fanboys (I actually prefer the second film as it has more character development and a more interesting storyline). For me the only 2 truly standout movies have been Winter Soldier and Guardians.

Each to their own though of course, and always nice to get into a grown up discussion with fellow film nerds. smile

Don't think it's officially out yet, just bad camera phone footage from comic con.

I'm waiting on that, X-Men Apocalypse and The Hateful Eight trailers to get a proper YT release...

Ah ok cheers. I normally don't bother with those as the quality is terrible, but gives you an idea at least.

I hope they make good use of the R rating.

From what I've read, the building mashing in Man of Steel will have repercussions for SUperman.
It certainly should have, in that it was so fking boring that I'll be very reluctant to watch another one of these bloody things.

Not sure about this one after the latest trailer either.

Hollywood seem to be approaching some sort of greed cliff. These cows they're relentlessly milking are going to start dropping dead soon.

I was a big pessimist of this film. I must admit I'm not a massive Batman fan and I think Nolan's trilogy is hugely overrated, as someone else mentioned it wasn't really a superhero story.

However this new trailer has turned it around for me, I can now see where they were going with all the gratuitous destruction in MoS, something that was very out of place for Supes but it looks like this film will be used to shape how he interacts with us normal humans in the future. Affleck's Batman also looks suitably pissed off and bad ass all suited up with his new suit so perhaps this will be the film that convinces me that Batman is more than just a guy in a fancy Halloween costume.

Having watched MoS for the first time since posting my above comment I, too, am less pessimistic.

I think I'm probably prejudiced against both Affleck and a revamped Batman so soon after Nolan's trilogy and have always hated Lex Luthor in almost every film (didn't watch Smallville, but my Dad liked it). But I reckon they can definitely pull it off. It would be good to see Superman lose faith in humanity before becoming it's greatest defender somehow. And a film about how earth/metropolis handles the news about a god walking among them could be played well.

For some reason though, the thought of Supes being defeated by Batman and dropped into the clutches of the US Govt/Luthor via the use of kryptonite just makes me groan.

I'm sure Batman will initially get the upper hand by some nefarious means to add "drama" but then Supes will come through somehow.

Don't want to get all geeky but in reality, we all know Batman wouldn't stand a chance. wink

"I didn't have to go easy on you. A different binding agent, a stronger mix... I want you to remember that. I wanted to remind you to stay out of my way. In all the years to come, in your most private moments, I want you to remember the one man who beat you! " wink

If the film is half as good as two part animated film it will be excellent.

Indeed they were excellent and that speech is brilliant too as a little reminder to Supes that he needs to keep his ego in check. I really hope this is the tone they go for.

HOWEVER a fight between Supes and the Bats would be VERY short and only go one way but that wouldn't make a good film\story not to mention upsetting the legions of Batman fans hence we get the usual Kryptonite plot device which evens the playing field into something a bit more interesting smile

Then how come Batman beats Superman in the comic from which a lot of this film is taken from.

[controversial mode] Because Batman is VERY popular with the readers in the DC universe and most of the fights in the comics are in fact popularity contests. [/controversial mode] wink

I know arguing about a make-believe universe is pretty pointless (and geeky to the extreme) but in reality if an alien with Supermans god like powers faced off against a mere human in a batsuit it would be over VERY quickly. However Zod or Doomsday giving Superman a hard time I can certainly get behind. smile
