He is a petrolhead and has had various Astons/Ferrari's/Porsche's.

And the Lexus in 2nd series of I'm Alan Partridge was badged an IS200 as "that was what Alan would buy", but was actually an IS300 as "that was what Steve would buy".

True story.
Really?

So this is decent then? The trailer put me right off, Coogan looks and sounds like Coogan not Partridge in most of it.

I was living abroad when he was doing Partridge.
I've seen clips and have heard his quotes from lots of people.

I don't think he's funny (The character) but I like Coogan as a celeb.

I just don't get it.

Yes, yes. I've seen some of those before.
I just don't think he's funny.

It's not hard to act like a plum and be a Bafoon. (I should know.)

You are making me question my own QI fact here, and for the life of me, I can't recall how I came into possession of this information (like most of the ste in my head) but at the risk of been run out of PH Towers, i'm going to stick with it as TRUE! yes

Saw this tonight. The writing was so good I wished they could have squeezed another series out of it.

I thought Geordie Michael should have featured a bit more. I totally lost it at the 'sandwich box incident'.

His 'distraction' at the end did me. Don't know why it just had me in stitches.

Thought this would be a good place to ask. Never watched any Alan Partridge stuff (except a few minutes worth) but now interested in checking it out.

Any suggestions of where to start? I.e Knowing me knowing you or I'm Alan Partridge?

Or any other suggestions welcome. Cheers

I rewatched all the I'm Alan Partridge episodes last week on netflix, absolute classic comedy. I didn't get further than the first two of the chatshow, it was dire.

Mid-morning matters? Not his best stuff but still pretty watchable IMO.

For me the character has gone downhill since series one of I'm Alan Partridge. From S2 onwards its almost like Coogan is doing an impression of Partridge instead of playing him.

Dont get me wrong, IMO S2 and the stuff he's done since has been very good - its just not in the same league as KMKY and S1 of I'm Alan Partridge.

I've been watching KMKY and S1 on Dave recently and there much more of an innocence to the character, the comedy is much more subtle. The film is much more slapstick and the humour is more about Alan just being a prick.

There's so much more to the character in the first 2 series (as well as the radio shows). Partridge is a much more sympathetic character and that makes it funnier because you are laughing more at the comedy rather that at Alan just being a dick.

All IMO.

The first bit is very true. Lovely Ferrari when I lived near him in Brighton.

It's also obvious he understands the car world as he always lampoons the car bore so well.

i do hope that is true!
Thought it was common knowledge tbh, heres an extract from an interview:

I'm better off on paper now than ten years ago but I've got less money in the bank. I get paid quite well for doing films but at the moment it's notmuch more than I get for doing TV in the UK.
Put it this way, I'm thinking of buying an Audi RS4 rather than a Ferrari.
Because I like cars I try to use my knowledge of them with each character I do. I've always liked American muscle cars and particularly the Mustang Mach 1 so I bought a scale model of it in yellow with a black bonnet ? it's on my office mantelpiece.
It's the same one Sean Connery drove in Diamonds Are Forever.
When I made Saxondale I thought that because Tommy sees himself as some kind of lonesome American free spirit, the Mustang would suit him.
So I made the researchers find exactly the same car as my model.
That was me being a small-minded anorak car diva.
To unwind I go online and look at used classic cars on the internet. The good thing about it is there's no chance of me ending up on some sort of register.
Us comics have got to be careful nowadays ? and although it is a slightly dysfunctional thing to do it's ultimately a harmless hobby.
My brother destroyed my £100,000 Ferrari. He presents a show on Men And Motors and he spun it out of control and crashed it.
I travelled so few miles in it and it depreciated so much that I figured out that for a round trip from Brighton to Manchester and back it would have been cheaper to hire a twin-engined light aircraft.
But I did have fun in it because I used to drive my daughter to Sainsbury's and park in the parent-and-child bay.
People would come out to complain and I'd get out with my daughter in a baby bucket.
Nowadays I drive a nine-year-old Porsche 911 Carrera 4. It's the last of the air-cooled 911s, which to my mind are the coolest.
If you see what I mean. Stockbrokers drive the new ones but the air-cooled models are the last handmade Porsches.
I won't sell mine. What I will sell is my big 4WD BMW X5, which I feel slightly embarrassed by now because a) I'm conscious of the carbon footprint, b) they are big and antisocial c) they are Chelsea tractors so I'm driving a car that women use for the school run in Kensington.
