I fully recommend Detectorists for anyone who hasn't seen it!
+1A perfectly observed, whimsically gentle comedy. One of my all time top comedy series. Absolutely wonderful.
Sorry Blib, have to differ on that one. Agree with your synopsis but for me it is merely a 'nice' programme. Saying 'gentle' comedy is another way of saying it isn't really that funny. Just an average nice programme but one that I forgot existed until this post.

has anyone been watching Bloodline ? S2 is now out, S1 needs watching before S2! - its great! S1 is a bit slow to start...
You're telling me, we gave up on S1 despite it being recommended on here after countless episodes of nothing happening.Civpilot said:

The Signal. If you like Sci-Fi then this one's for you. Not sure where the bad reviews came from, I think some people saw Lawrence Fishburne and then didn't realise it was a fairly low budget film (which doesn't impact it in any way).
Yup I'll second this , saw it a few weeks back a real unexpected gemWatched it after the suggestion on this thread and it's actually a really good little movie. The low budget is fairly evident but at the same time it makes it feel more intimate and personal. Really didn't see where it was heading either. Well worth the time.

If you are looking for another decent independent sci-fi on Netflix, try Coherence and also The One I Love.

Don't know if it has been mentioned before, but I was trawling around Netflix last night looking for something to watch and stumbled across "The Butterfly Effect". I thought it deserved more than the three-and-a-half stars rating it has on there.
Great film! Which ending do they have on the Netflix version?smithyithy said:

Are you saying there are different versions with different endings? I don't want to fall foul of the spoiler-squad by giving anything away, even on a 10 year old film, but the ending was satisfactory. Is the other one the killing-spree ending?Janluke said:

Thanks for this - watched it last night and really enjoyed it; agreed that it deserves more that three stars. It did remind me a bit of the episode of the Simpsons where Homer builds a toaster time machine and every time that he goes back he slightly changes something that has a huge effect. In the end Marge and the kids are eating by flicking out long lizard tongues. "Meh, close enough"
Re-watched Doomsdays and Hush this weekend.
Hush is about a deaf writer who is being attacked by a masked killer in a remote location. Sounds cliche but you can only hear the sounds she sees. Very good audio mixing and it thinks ahead of its self making you feel part of her decision process. Worth a watch.
Doomsdays is about two vagabonds wandering around breaking into rental homes. A story of acceptance and giving up. Quirky. Very character driven so not for all.
