3 documentaries for me this week

McCullin- looks at a famous war photographer's career, absolutely harrowing stuff which is not an easy watch but a must see for anyone who is interested on war

McConkey- about a promising skier who is a complete adrenaline junky and becomes interested in BASE jumping and combines the 2, some genuine heart in the mouth moments

5 broken cameras- I was genuinely shocked how awful the Israeli army and government could be with regards to the illegal Israel settllements, this is purely footage a Palestinian farmer films from his village as the settlements get built closer and closer. A must watch

At this rate I can see me cancelling Sky...
Going to watch McCullin this week as I have heard good things.

If you have access to the US, you should definitely see if you haven't all ready:

Restrepo - Co-directed by Tim Hetherington who sadly lost his life in Libya shortly after its release, follows a US platoon in Afghanistan trying to hold and push back the Taliban.

Under Fire: Journalists in Combat - tells the story of several war journos during recent major conflicts and how they cope with the scenes they see, very hard hitting and sombre in parts.

Both highly recommend.

Korengal and is also on netflix, I watched it at the weekend. You probably have to be very interested in the military and Afghanistan to enjoy it. I like'd it though and enjoyed the views of the Korengal valley, I can see why the guys all said that they missed the place.

I watched Event Horizon the other night. Still scares the st out of me all these years later.
I'm not someone who is above being scared by a long shot but Event Horizon just doesn't seem to get to me - I've even tried watching in the dark with headphones on and it still just feels like Red Dwarf with a bit of horror chucked in.

Funny that. I find that most modern stuff is pretty funny instead of scary. The old stuff like this just seem to get me. I think it's my over active imagination.

It's from 1997, that's not an old film.

I remember seeing this at the flix expecting a sci-fi film, just got a silly horror flick instead.

I suppose. I was 12 in 97 so seems old to me.

I was 13 in 1997, probably didn't even get released on VHS for another 2 years and it st me up when my parents rented it and let me watch it with them. I wouldn't watch it on my own now, either!

The problem I had was that the concept of a black hole being the gateway to 'hell' was silly not scary.

When you're 15, you don't tend to delve that deep into plots.

At the weekend me and the wife watched 'Generation War' again. Absolutely recommend this for everyone - a very thought provoking mini-series (3x 1.5hr episodes), taking 5 friends as WWII breaks out who think the war will be over by Xmas and arrange to meet up. It follows their experiences through the war and how their lives intertwine. It's in German (with subtitles) and really interesting to see something like this from the German perspective.
This was the BBC a while ago, a very good series.

Someone help me out here. I've gone back to Breaking Bad because people keep telling me that it takes off and is amazing from the middle of S2. I've seen up to S2E08 (watched 8 out of a 13 episode season) and I'm still waiting - it's pretty tedious so far. When does it get good?

almost an entire episode about a flat battery? Really?

For me, it was when he was in business with the Los Hermanos Polos dude. I really enjoyed that series, and the one after the most.

Due to the real crrap way the Netflix on screen menu is laid out, I tend to spend most of the night scrolling....and scrolling....and.....then it's time for bed.

Should just make it one long alphabetical list - my opinion of course. wink

I did watch the U.S. version of The Killing, enjoyed it very much.
