A great credit to the production team at the Beeb (and let's be honest it's not too often you can say that). Great stuff, looking forward to series 3.
To be fair, BBC production values are (quite rightly) highly regarded globally, its the content that lets them down at times.

I know what you're saying, I've just been disappointed by some of the recent adult/children's programmes of late, such as Atlantis, Merlin, Doctor Who. On the face of it well produced (well, looks glossy in trailers) but when you actually watch it its peurile rubbish.

Love it, this is the best thing the BBC have done since, Zen.
It had to happen at some point, that a great British serial drama would be made to rival HBO stuff.
That last episode was utterly compelling. With a gangster leader's death fresh in my mind from a different programme, there was a small part of me that thought the Beeb would finish it there, I didn't know if he'd live, I was trying to figure out how he'd do it. Cracking stuff.

Amazing show, doesn't seem all that popular/discussed on this forum!?...

Only on page 5 after 2 seasons!...

Imo it must be one of the best shows on tv over the past few years. A list cast with Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy, good story line etc...

Highly recommended to anyone. You won't be disappointed.

I presume we'll have to wait a whole year before season 3 begins?

Can't argue with that. Lots of things working well and coming together to make it stand out from the usual American 'formula' TV shows.

Spot on. I need a bigger television for the next season's series, and a sound bar!

Just finished season 1 last night. I've put off a lot of English dramas for a while now so playing catch up. This was brilliant. i was impressed. Just the right amount of pace throughout.

In my opinion it's the only English drama of it's type that can equal the imported HBO/AMC/Showtime stuff.

Agreed. Which is strange. I don't know what it is but 9/10 there is something that never seems to click with me when it comes to British drama. Maybe its the possibility I'm closer to some of the places and types of people that I find myself picking it apart more. I don't know.

But yes this was very good.

not quite same type but Luther / Sherlock spring to mind

have to go back some way to we get other UK productions that compete

The Singing Detective
State of Play
House of Cards (UK)
Prime Suspect
Cracker
The Monocled Mutineer

I watched one episode of Luther (granted) but it was ok. Hopefully it will pick up. I liked Top Boy as well but again I found bits of it a bit far fetched and made for TV.

The old man was raving on about HOC so I'll probably give that a go.

Ah yeah, Luther, that is pretty decent. I didn't include Sherlock because at three episodes a series, it's really a mini-series.
And those others are just too old. biggrin
I hope that the new BBC fantasy show, Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell is s suitable UK alternative to Game of Thrones.

Misfits, Utopia. Plenty out there.

But Peaky Blinders has been the best thing on in years. Worth the licence fee alone. Cant wait for series 3

Is there any legal means of watching season 2? It's not on Netflix.

I've just binged watch season 1 on Netflix, I thought it was brilliant TV. The scenes with the IRA were particularly chilling. Imagine my horror when I realised there are only 6 episodes.
