What an odd way to try to sell a classic car. Methinks the vendor wanted to be on t'telly. He'd have got a better price at auction, even after costs.

IMHO the whole program is staged...

I gave them the benefit of the doubt in series 1. Now however, I agree with you, it's just some pseudo reality entertainment show.

Indeed, why would you go to a pawn broker to try and sell an 80 year old car?

What did they offer rubber lips for the necklace and earrings in the end?

I think they lost contact with Michelin lips - [guessing]obviously she didn't like the low value that was offered to her so 'call-barred' Prestige.[/guessing] Though don't think it was said what the offer was.

She was a bit strange - presumably the pawn shop still had her jewellery when they were trying to call her with the offer, so not a great idea to block the calls.

Yes I was keen to see how much a 180k necklace was going to be worth too.

yes

It's becoming a proper favourite bit of TV for me.

Really hoping that Jag sells for what they want.

Not going to spoil it for others, anyone else thinking she will get more for the rat?

Yeah, me too. I guess it depends on how good it is underneath the car but, do hope it reaches her expectations.

I'd say it's a very rare thing and might well go well.

ETA: Well, shows what I know.

a) did they ever check with Cartier's archives to ensure its provenance? As an 18ct gold rat the value of £500 was probably right if it was made elsewhere.

b) the jag was one of the last ones, probably a 240 with Ambla upholstery rather than leather. Nobody wants them, they're slow sellers.

c) is it just me, or is there a statutory w***er every week? The guy with the boat was (to me) another dreamer living above his means. That old Merc, the supposed lifestyle - yet he couldn't afford 3 new vans.

My thoughts exactly! £100k isn't 'that' much in the sort of circles he supposly moves in.

So the bird was buying a holiday home in Croatia when she clearly does not have a pot to piss in in the UK rolleyes

It is now a sitcom

I have decided the programme is rather boring and so long winded. I may skip it in future, although I did fall asleep for about 10 minutes of it last night and have to rewind it.

What would happen if a pawn broker took something away to get valued (like 300k worth of diamonds) and they they went bankrupt/into administration? Would the official receiver hand back these items?

I'd be very nervous leaving anything with them.
