I went to see this late the other night. (I asked specifically not for a 3D showing and not sure that was the right choice)
Anyway I'm not sure why all the rave reviews? 8/7 out of ten at best for the visuals.

Quick! Somebody check his history of reviews on here!

This doesn't appeal to me for some reason - Im pretty sure I saw the teaser trailer when I saw Star Trek (yes that long ago) and thought that it was no doubt beautiful but likely full of errors that would grate and generally be a depressing film.

I can't really describe it, but it's the same reason I have no interest in watching 127 hours, if that makes sense?
makes perfect sense to me

Haven't seen it but whys it called gravity when it's set in space?

I saw the trailer and it did nothing for me mainly because the female lead has a history of doing crappy roles, most recently the heat.

Not to me as 127 hours is a true story where the ending is known and the reality is that you're watching that film waiting for that pivotal/famous scene - this is fiction where there may or may not be surprises along the way and not knowing the outcome a certain amount of tension can be generated...and apparently is - by the bucket load.

Yes, the film may be a let down, I can clearly see that and indeed we have had many examples of films being over-hyped this year...Prometheus, Man Of Steel, Pacific Rim, Cabin In The Woods to name just 4...but I can't see a comparison to 127 hours at all.

All IMHO.

Interesting, I've somehow managed to miss all reviews and trailers of this.

One of my biggest "fears"/ things-I-could-never-do is going into space, so I'm not actually sure I could sit and watch a film that really keyed into this...

Okay sorry guys I went to see the wrong film so can't comment.
Wait a minute it was called Gravity!
Best film ever NO WAY!
It was an okay film, Sandra Bullock was quite good, but to me it felt like a cheaply made film, with a poor storyline. Special effects were no more than average.
I just cannot see what all the fuss is about.
I wished we had gone to see Runner Runner our original choice till we saw the "best film ever made" reviews.

Just watched the trailers on the Apple TV. It looks interesting, it depends how far into the film the big thing happens though. It might be a lot of build up to it, or all happen quickly and the rest of the film is dealing with what has happened. All I really know about the film is this thread and the trailers, so apologies if it's been said somewhere.

Since everything in space is affected by gravity why not?

Must admit whilst the cgi looks pretty, the trailer didn't blow me away.

What format did you see it in? I think its going to be one of those films that works well in 3D, but not so well in 2D. Much like Avatar in 3D was a superb experience, but the film is not actually that good.

Like you I was less than bowled over but with hindsight I believe that for once thats actually a good thing.

Just about every fking trailer nowadays gives you the whole plot and includes (although you don't know it at the time) the final scene - usually of something being destroyed.

This trailer seems to give you nothing save part of the disaster that sets the scene for what is to follow. Although, to be fair, I've only seen 3 trailers. If, as has been said by many reviews, this film is action-packed and full of tension then not much of that has been transmitted in the trailers.

3D it would not work in 2D?

Decided to watch Gravity last night after work after reading all the rave reviews flying about everywhere. Have to say I was a little disappointed. Sure the cinematography was fantastic but with claims going round it's the best film of the year I was expecting some real awesomeness. 6/10.

The trailer didn't really do it for me but I'm going to see it anyway (as I got some free tickets)

Heads up - If you are a member Times Plus is giving away preview showings on the 28th 6:30pm at various UK cinemas

True, that really did defy explanation...

Hurt Locker? Yeah, not even Katherine Bigelow's best film, but it wasn't awful and it was fashionable at the time to salute heroes without supporting the war, which is what that film does.

There's a lot of politicking at the Oscars.

My son mentioned this to me and it does look quite good, although even in the trailer I was getting a bit tired of Bullocks squealing... Kind of reminded me of Goldie Hawn's non-stop screaming in "Bird on a Wire" biggrin

I watched this last night. Was good, not great though. What ruined it for me was that it was sooooo far fetched and unrealistic. So many ridiculous coincidences. And the end, that was just laughable.
