3rd week in row at the top of the US box office...due in the main to "phenomenal word of mouth" per a Warner Bros exec.

I want to watch this now because of this thread.

If it fails to deliver, then IM will be forced to watch Prometheus nonstop on a 24 hour loop.

Looks visually impressive but the trailer doesn't really grab me-possibly due to the simplistic storyline(or what I know of it!).
However,I've now got a couple of free tickets for the 28th so I'll post up my thoughts shortly afterwards.

Saw it in 3D in the USA last week. Personally, and I'm no great cinematic guru or anything, I thought it was superbly done. How they get the cgi to mimic weightlessness so well is very impressive. Go see it!

Utterly frustrating - we managed to obtain free tickets for a preview showing of Gravity at our local cinema last night. biggrin

But after sitting in the (packed out) auditorium for about an hour, the usherettes came up to the front and admitted that, because of technical difficulties, they were unable to show the film.furious So we all had to troop out glumly.

Apparently something to do with them being sent an American version of the film, and they were unable to 'unlock' it - if that makes sense to anybody.

They don't use film anymore, it's a data file which is uploaded into the digital projector. I believe there are regions as per DVD/Blu-Ray so if the cinema has been issued a Region 2 file and has a Region 3 projector and unless they can hack the file, you're watching nothing...

lost my "3D virginity" to this film

beautiful to look at, quite tense and exciting, but quite a simple plot

best film ever? hmm, not sure I'd go that far

I went to see this late the other night. (I asked specifically not for a 3D showing and not sure that was the right choice)
Anyway I'm not sure why all the rave reviews? 8/7 out of ten at best for the visuals.
There was for me (and I suspect others who took elementary lessons in Physics), some really glaring fundamental errors which sort of ruined it for me...
what were the glaring errors?
the orbits of the russian exploding satellite, hubble, ISS, chinese space station wouldn't be within easy reach of each other, and Bullock wouldn't be in just pants and a t-shirt inside her suit - I don't know that any of that is elementary physics

I detest 3d, and haven't seen anything other than Avatar that has utilised the technology to any benefit, so I'm torn when people talk about the 3d in this film as being 'up there with Avatar'.

My heart and most of my head say, boo, down with stupid 3d and I'll happily watch it in 2d, but then again... smile

Looking forward to this film very much, Children of Men is one of my favourite films.

Not a fan of 3D but this made excellent use of it, the best I've seen. It looked great, the audio work was excellent and I genuinely found myself on the edge of my seat for a fair amount of the film.
The zero G stuff looked pretty good the fire was nicely done.
SB was excellent.
8.5/10

I saw it a couple of nights ago here in Sacramento, CA at the IMAX theater in 3D. Absolutely stunning! I'd strongly advise seeing it this way, to make the most of the cinematography genius.

Both Bullock and Clooney amazing also, the former surely in line for an Oscar nomination! Just so very good on every level!

Found the film boring, yet gripping at the same time, amazing visuals, superb portrayal of zero gravity (no idea how they filmed that) but over acted by SB imo( the bloody dog howling bit!), and George Clooney was, erm, George Clooney as usual.
However its still one to be seen at the cinema in 3d, really puts the dangers of being in space into perspective without resorting to alien invasions!

Well erm Newton's Laws of motion are fairly fundamental no?

-The key part where she is hanging on to George, but can't stop him being pulled away by... still have no idea...
-Wondering why all the space stations fall out of orbit within a couple of hours.
-Everything being conveniently in line-of-sight..

they weren't stationary at that point, they were still decelerating, slowly moving, they still had kinetic energy, stretching and pulling the ropes around SB's foot, GC lets go otherwise the rope would have come loose

the stations didn't all fall out of orbit, only the Chinese one did, the others were destroyed in space

the chinese one was presumably slowed down by debris hitting it, lowering its altitude

everything being in close orbits together in line of sight, yes, artistic licence I suppose, but not a physics error

What annoyed me more was that she lost George because the parachute wouldn't that them both but then later that same parachute stopped her escaping in the capsule.

The avatar analogy someone else used best described this film, it's definitely overhyped. Really fantastic experience in IMAX, with staggering 3D and some properly gripping moments, but the overall storyline was quite dull. I can't see it being very enjoyable in 2D. Just my two pennies smile
