Good series, although not the best, but a very worthy winner.

Couple of observations / questions:

Was it me, or was there more of the tasks where the chefs copied / produced something from a Pro chef in a restaurant? I.E the last chefs table was in no way a measure of each cook, they just copied what someone else had done and were judging the taste / flavor combos from the pro chef.

Also, how do they keep the food hot / cold when filming in the studio? It started to make my teeth itch when I see a contestant doing something like an ice cream, and then they go last to present to John / Gregg. Is the food just sat there under lights / in a fridge? or do they stagger the timings of presenting the food? I can't see that being the case either as the kitchen behind them is quiet and other contestants stood around watching.

This is the number one biggest unanswered question in Masterchef. And even as someone who works in the industry I have not got a specific answer. If all the dishes are cooked simultaneously then, even if things were happening in real time (which they are not as making TV takes a lot of time) then the later presented dishes would be cold, congealed, melted etc.

I suspect some clever editing so that you see all the contestants prepping their dishes together but cooking is staggered so that each is fresh out of the oven when it is presented to the judges.

Apparently the regular stuff presented to John & Greg is all cooked at the same time but with rearranging things for filming by the time it's tasted it's all lukewarm at best. It also helps the appearance on camera - you never see steam rising off it, and most food promo photography you see will also be cold. They just take that into account when tasting.

When they're serving the four critics they stagger the starting times so they go in turn.

But does whatever is being presented ever look hot?

I suspect the taste it as it's produced and then set up the "judging" that we see (having mostly made their minds up....)

I am sure I have read that all the meals are cold, for two reasons, the timing issue and also hot food does not film well.

The judges will constantly be tasting what they are cooking whilst they are cooking it.

but you see them all end cooking at the same time and consoliing each other. For this to work one would be presenting their dish while the others still cooked in back of shot

what about desserts? They would melt. What about eggs? (and there were a hell of a lot of eggs) They would congeal

It's obvious when they serve the critics the serve times are staggered. Its the presentation to Torode and the Grocer that baffles me. They defintiely all finish at the same time. Dishes served later are always going to suffer.

I was disappointed we didn't get the palate taste this year where the contestants have to remake a dish that John cooked.

I agree that there seemed to be a lot of reproducing other chef's work but I guess this is the best way for them to learn new techniques.

The whole way through the competition I thought the final would be Jack, Stephen and Juanita as they were the most creative and probably best cooks overall. Unfortunately a few poor dishes at the wrong time from each of them.
