Tell me honestly - can you see any other TV channel commissioning such a programme - especially a satellite or cable chanenl?
No, and it's one of the reasons I love the BBC.

Love the far the picked out the cheap plonk.... and is now unashamedly parading about in an Edwardian bathing costume.
Do you need to rephrase any of that?

I think Gareth Malone from the choir must buy his trousers from the same place Portillo buys his jackets.

Really great series and well presented by Mr Portillo. His jackets are a bit loud for me BTW.

He wears the same dodgy jackets in Great British Railway Journeys which starts again next month. Very enjoyable programmes.

Why does he have Paul Daniels as his water carrier?

I like the way they clearly say he doesn't need, and doesn't give a toss about "fashion" and wears what he likes.

Will be nice to see my home town on the telly, although not sure there is any particularly interesting railway history associated with it confused

Southport. He's walking along the pier in that pic and I assume chatting about the train / tram thing that runs up it.

Bumpety-bump.

New series started yesterday.

As enjoyable and well-presented as ever, though I can't imagine why, of all the things there are to see in Manchester, they chose to focus on Little Ireland, of which there's nothing left to see.

My home town, Bolton, featured on tonight's episode - yay!thumbup

Portiilo even managed to pronounce Hall i'th' Wood in (almost) the correct local accent ('Ollithwud') - which is more than can be said by the annoyingly smug recorded female voice on the local train PA as it approaches Hall i'th' Wood station.

Good to hear. As I've already said, the man is a gent. Putting up with Abbott alone is proof of that hehe
