This looks good, a four part series in which Mr Martin attempts to be beat some land speed records.
It starts on 29th December.

Just the job! thumbup

The fact that it's being made by North One bodes very well as they're the fine folk that produce the TT programmes for ITV4 - coverage that has been credited as a significant factor in the increase in interest of the event over the last couple of years, along with the Closer to the Edge film. Hope Guy gets more decent results next year though I remain sceptical that he's in the right place for the top step. That said, I'm so happy for Conor getting that Honda pew. Ace!

On a shallower level it'll be nice to see the lovely Ms Trott again yes

I cant stand him! Defo one not to watch.

He is a character but very false and fake.

He hates the attention and publicity yet courts the TV stations with programme after programme. Turns up late to meetings and expects the world to bow down to him. Spits his dummy when things go wrong.

Just a lorry mechanic - not fussed about the PR, lifestyle and bullst like the others - yet drives a Aston.

I just wish he was honest and dropped the persona!!

A mate and I bumped into him at the Goodwood FOS a couple of years back, he seemed a nice and approachable chap.

Unfortunately we couldn't say hello to him - as neither of us could remember his bloody name!

Watched 'Closer to the Edge' for the first time recently. Great Film / documentary - Guy Martin is a character, generally like his stuff so will make sure I catch this series!

That's not quite the point I was making. I cant stand the 'Mr average who prefers to be left alone' persona that is at odds with his actions (flash car, tv shows, etc...).

Why not just drop the 'Im a normal guy who wants to be left alone bullst'? The reality is he is a reasonably successful fan favourite who courts and enjoys the status, lifestyle and fame that it comes with.

As for what he spends his money on - Its not for me to judge, but I think his stuff is cool, nice car, nice bike, cool Lego, etc....

Bitter much?

Ever thought he actually enjoys the TV shows he does? Guy's canal boat series was quality, a real enthusiasm for engineering... Plus if you could snuff it on the TT or Northwest 200 and had a chance to drive an Aston everyday, you wouldn't?

I don't think im bitter - happy for his success.
I think he does enjoy his work, and engineering is interesting.
If I had the chance to drive an Aston I would irrespective of the TT.

Non of these comments are related to the point im making - that he markets himself one way and behaves in another way - why?

But it's just that - marketing. The product is Guy Martin, bikey bloke.
And he doesn't take his work home.
Top Gear is largely made up too apparently.

I take your point, whilst I quite like the guy he does 'play it up ' too much for me whilst still maintaining his down with the lads alter ego. I hope he does well with the telly stuff as I fear a TT win is beyond him now
