Guy Martin - Speed

I don't have a bike licence. I do know the TT course over the mountain as well as I know the drive home from work. I have driven the TT course in a number of very quick cars in the manner of someone who has the devil on his tail. I would never dream of trying to ride a bike at speed over the same route.
Eh? I do have a bike licence. Having ridden around it a couple of times on a normal day with other traffic (which restricted giving it the beans in some places), I'd give it a whirl ....but I wouldn't be very fast.

Some of the narration was a bit cringe worthy too, going on about how dangerous it was for the divers, it's only 30m ffs.
I think it is a growing trend on TV these days, making out everything to be so deadly, if he "veers to the right INTO THE ROCKS!", he is riding a sledge FFS!It is made worse by the fact, this particular presenter for a day job rides at 200mph+ on street circuits like it's nothing.
False (and often unnecessary) jeopardy seems to be an important aspect of TV programmes, for some reason.
I too would have liked to see more attempts during each of the episodes.
The series was much better than most though.
Guy's effort on the Cresta Run was good too. I was hoping he'd be good. I wonder how quick his time was on his fastest effort? 400quid for the privilege though!
ps. I'm not sure how much choice of speed skiing venue there was, but there must surely be somewhere with a longer run-off, which appeared to be the limiting factor.
I wonder if any of the other blokes had a go whilst they were there?

Reminded me of a speed freak Fred Dibna...
Which is a complement.
I used to love watching Fred Dibna, despite having no real interest (in the beginning anyway) in steam locomotives or trains. His programs were interesting, informative and had an element of humour about them. I guess there was also a nostalgia factor? Which is a complement.

It's a big deal in the hills, they hold competitions etc.Pretty sure the one at Les Arcs (current record of 156 mph) is open to the public!

156 mph on skis?! Absolutely mental. Pretty sure the one at Les Arcs (current record of 156 mph) is open to the public!

I've seen that one. The run-off looked to end at the resort!
I've been down it on normal skis from about halfway - it is steep, and you go scarily fast. I believe anyone over 15 can hire the full speed skiing gear and do it from the top if they are mad enough - the crazy French! I recall reading it is 70 degrees steep at the top, although could have got that wrong as not too far off vertical.

The speed run in Les Arcs is an off piste run most of the season and fairly easy to get to. Although without the grooming it is a very steep and narrow lumpy mogul field.
I finally got around to watching the final episode tonight and echo the comments on here. I thought he could have gone from higher. He's prepared to fall off a bike at 200mph in leathers on concrete, but half that speed on snow is dangerous? doesn't make sense. Of all the stunts, that was the one that I thought I would be able to have a crack at. I've managed a GPS recorded 79.8mph on my 178cm twin tip skis down a red in St Gervais with a major speed wobble. I reckon in the correct conditions with slightly longer skis I could crack 85mph without too much problem.
