Groundhog meets Looper meets Starship Troopers more like.

The book it's based on 'All You Need Is Kill' was very critically acclaimed by the authors peers so I have high hopes for this being as the story should at the least be half-decent.

In production this film was titled the same as the book 'All You Need Is Kill' but later changed to 'Edge Of Tomorrow' by hollywood.

If you like Sc-Fi then Cruise is making some quite high concept stuff nowadays having just come off the back of (like it or not) Oblivion.

Hey, come on! At least its not 'After Earth'.

I really liked Oblivion, it looked remarkable and the trailer for this, to me, looks better than the 'Sci-Fi Groundhog Day' I instantly envisaged.

Fingers crossed.

i'm looking forward to this. Yes it would be better if the lead had gone to brad pitt as originally intended. I think TC is in almost every film there is out now.

Fan or not, Tom Cruise is box office.

In a sci-fi film like this his name almost guarantees a minimum gross take of between (say) $70m to $100m.

Oblivion made $89m worldwide whilst War Of The Worlds made $234m

Thats not to be sniffed at.

That's a hell of a drop between WotW and Oblivion though!

Is it just a factor of the older film raking in loads via DVD/Bluray sales over the years?

If those figures were correct then both would have been flops based on their budgets (£120m for Oblivion, £150m for WOTW)

Oblivion actually made £300m worldwide and WOTW nearly £600m.

Now that really is not to be sniffed at.

Spielberg + Marketing Machine. I personally think Oblivion is a far better film.

And those figures above are BO only. No other revenue streams taken into account.

Nah. War Of The Worlds was a mainstream all action, Humans v Aliens carnage fest that appealed to tweenies and the general public alike...Oblivion was far more high brow/high concept sci-fi and was never going to make similar cash returns IMHO.

In keeping with the Pistonheads theme, the guy who designed the look of Oblivion has also written a couple of books with his designs in.

I have this one...

Brilliant book with some amazing photos of his cars.

One of his designs of a "current" racing car...

The book is available from Amazon etc

ps. He also designed the "look" of Tron Legacy and all of the machinery in "Captain America: The first Avenger" (including that amazing 6 wheeled car that Hugo Weaving drove around in)

Why have aliens all got to be mechanical looking and tentacled nowadays?

Easier/cheaper to CGI perhaps? Making something predominantly organic look believable has always been the biggest challenge. That's why Jurassic Park was so hugely impressive at the time (and still is TBH).

Think that looks pretty good from the trailer tbh, looking forward to it. Can't say I particularly like Tom Cruise but I do happen to like a lot of his films. If that makes sense...

And, a ripped Emily Blunt?? Oof. Yes please.

Apart from WOTW where he and Dakota Fanning were trying to out-act each other! shoot
Was I the only one hoping she'd be eaten by the aliens because of her incessant screaming!

Anyhoo. Yes. Like TC's films especially Knight and Day - I like it when he plays quirky characters - and was hilarious in Tropic Thunder hehe

Mr Cruise is really embracing his Sci Fi at the moment, I wonder if it has something to do with his 'religious' beliefs....? scratchchin

Anyway, I watched Jerry Maguire again the other day and he is outstanding in that film. Sometimes a role just 'fits' him, a la Rainman or Top Gun. All films where he plays a flash git with an ego....
