I finally got around to watching both episodes tonight, wasn't expecting much, but t's the best motor based TV I've watch for ages!

Thought I'd have a search of PH just to see if the usual moanie old bkss had been posted about it, just like the Top Gear thread.

Yup.

Watched Idris Elba this evening, can't think of anything other than how embarrassing for the opening episode!

I watched Idris Elba - No Limits

Idris struggled to get to the end of a rally stage without ripping the wheels off the car.

I felt sorry for the co- driver eek

I quite liked the fact he kept crashing, so those watching could get an idea of how hard it actually is to do.

Even with only 130bhp plus he was humbled.

His ego was his biggest problem at the start. The next episode could be fun if he doesn't learn to control himself.

Me too - he did make it look rather difficult (which it is) - I do airfield events and am looking to do single stage rallies later this year. When I saw that he was doing an Irish rally on the roads, I thought he was brave.

It turned out he couldn't really do it - which isn't a surprise, I am not sure any one of us could without a lot of practice.....

The worst bit was that he wasn't actually an entrant. He was allowed to drive the stages as an "Invitational Rally". His crash on SS1 meant the cancellation of that stage for the actual National rally entrants... rolleyes

I think he found that moment I see at trackdays when he realised watching it is easy but doing it is so much harder, he put a brave face on it but you could see the pain.

I hope he fails on his next task to, not because I have anything against him but these days with high motion cameras that no longer give the perception of the true speed of Motorsport these days I watched the coverage of the NW200 this years & the bikes looked slow!! lol which of course they aren't with bikes hitting 200+ it wasn't anything like what we were seeing.

I agree the co driver looked a little concerned & irritated.

It's almost frustrating watching someone given such amazing opportunities and then wasting it by NOT listening to the instructions he is given.

Pretty much the same behavior resulted in rolling Ari's BMW in the previous series.

Didnt see the first one, but the classic anc sportscar column wss livid. Did hd really call Malcolm campbell a journalist? And say his modern bentkey was more of an achievement as campbell had used a racing car? And hd didnt even break the record. Officially, richard noble does

Watched the first series a while ago and he came across as a boy racer.

Amused when Jimmy Mc summed him up as a boy racer and it was clear he'd taken nothing from the first series nor much from his opportunities in this. Only seen the Circuit episode and frankly it was embarrassing, though perhaps co-driver could have been a bit (read a lot) more forceful in getting him to slow down for that X-roads. Personally didn't like the description of straight over X-roads as that would tend to get the wrong mindset in respect it was actually a 45ish left.

Mnd you I can't crow as my one attempt at the Circuit in the 70s ended upside down over a stone wall paperbag

The Circuit of Ireland is one of the oldest and toughest rallies in the world. Many of the locals had big offs last year too.

I made it to all the stages this year and was in the paddock when he limped back in at the end of the second day hehe

I'll fire some pictures up later. His PR/Minder wasn't too happy when a local 'tog started snapping him sitting in the ditch with a cig after one off.

It is an insult to call todays event The Circuit of Ireland, the Circuit of old was as it's name suggests a circuit of almost the entire country with overnight stops in places as like Waterford, Limerick and Galway, with all night drives back towards the border, taking the entire Easter bank holiday weekend. The current joke of an event hardly leaves Belfast and simply doesn't appeal to rally enthusiasts anymore.

Elba is even less talented a driver than he is an actor.

I saw the 1st series and am halfway thru the rally episode.
What is clear is he has absolutely no racing talent whatsoever. Surely they could have found someone equally famous but with some actual ability......
....and now I've watched it all they'd have been better off with Brian Johnson, at least he can drive.
And what's with kph?

In a way this programme frustrates me as much as the classic car touring series with Richard Wilson. The premise was good, classic touring routes in classic British cars. Pity they chose a numpty who couldn't manage a manual gearbox and just inflicted the most awful treatment to very nice vehicles. tt.

Exactly this.

Wasn't at all surprised to see that the program is put together by no other than Idris Elba. No one else would have tolerated his behaviour.
