Brooker Weekly Wipe
Discussion
Two too many helpings of Philomena Cunk (even her name isn't funny) and one too many of Barry stpeas. Yeah, they're thick. We get it. Gales of laughter etc.
The rest of it was great. I found myself getting a bit wound up about the 'judge' woman on US TV. Why do we and the USA feel the need to be so self-important as to think everything is to do with us? "We need to kill them"?! No you don't - the French are big boys and girls and did it themselves, but thanks for your interest. Now kindly keep your nose out of other people's business. When that red-faced man popped up and began chundering nonsense about Birmingham, I felt like I was watching The Day Today. He was like a satirical creation, like Alan Partridge or Peter O'Hanraha-hanrahan.

Fox news is just incredible. I still can't get over them using the Titanic film to demonstrate a point, whilst being seemingly oblivious to the fact its sinking was an actual event in history. The rest of it was great. Of course, Birmingham IS a no-go city, but only because no-one wants to go there! (Sorry, just a joke, if you love Brum )
Like nearly all Brooker programmes I found it a very hit and miss afair.
He's funny about 20% of the time I think and this one was probably on the low side of the average.
I like Top Gear, but it's so ripe for a piss-take that I thought the Cassette-Boy bit was a weak attempt (Is Brooker Cassette Boy or is it another of his cronies?).
It had a few moments though.
M
PS I'm probably alone, but I laughed most at Cunk's Churchill bit - I'm impressed the interviewees do such a great job of keeping a straight face

There's a challenge - trying to present cutting edge satire to reflect the problems of today's society, and he cannot even show the cover of a French satirical magazine.
With which he presumably would wish to express solidarity.
Even when it has been the biggest story of 2015.
Shame.
And Cunk is boring beyond the second sentance. stpeas is legend.

Another memory has drifted back to me - what the hell was that 'Zeb' bit about?! Was that a send up of something I have no awareness of?
Yeah it's a send up of the ever increasing trend for people to Video Blog "Vlog" on YouTube & similar, how most of them see it as their own "freedom of speech" to say whatever they want or what "they" are feeling, and how many millions of people hang off every word that gets spoken by them. It's also parodying the fact that advertisers cottoned on to the fact that vlogging is a massive revenue portal to sell products to the people who watch the videos. Hence the piss take of the Kit Kat scene as essentially a lot of the well known / watched vloggers get paid to advertise products and sell it to their viewers. The irony is that it's the opposite of the "freedom of speech" the vlogger claims they have because they've actually been paid to say / advertise something by a company.
It's similar to the incident a few years ago when some England footballers like Rio Ferdinand were caught out plugging sponsors products (such as Mars) in their Twitter ramblings.
