MM had some very good roles early in his career.

Depp has got he acting range to do a show like this.
Pitt does not.

But Pitt has already done a film like this, Seven. Of the 2, I would say that Depp has too much baggage to take on the sort of role required for this show - I struggle to see him as anything other than Captain Jack, I'm quite looking forward to seeing how he plays the bad guy in his new film though.

Series was all about the two leads, hope they don't make another

MM and WH are too big to ignore the film roles I imagine

Depp's baggage is the problem. He hasn't done anything serious/dark since the overshadowing Sparrow...after saying that, if he gave an A-list performance in something like this, then that could cast Jack back into the void.

Pitt relies on the same ticks in his 'edgy' roles and I didn't see anything new in Se7en that I hadn't seen him twitch before sometime. I feel he has a very rigid (and small) set of moulds he can draw on. Not particularly convincing for me either.

There are loads of people I reckon they could use.

Christian Bale would be great. Daniel Day Lewis could as well. Or a woman instead?

Thing is with all of them it would need to be about the acting rather than the money. When you are looking at people at that level you cant really pay them enough to make them do something that they dont already want to do.

Has anyone else on here read the John Connolly Charlie Parker book series ? The earlier books are very similar in style to True Detective but with a more supernatural slant. They also feature a couple of very memorable side kick characters who could almost have a book series of their own.

Yes - they're brilliant and fully agree about the additional characters. Some of the books almost have them as the story's main focus sometimes.

Angel & Louis are probably my favourite.

Enjoyed that, i don't really get sucked into series' but this was good. Been racking my mind to find out when Rust had (as he said) seen the killer before but nothing rang a bell.

Looking forward to the second series

He was the groundskeeper on the lawnmower. I realised it was him a while back, and I was a bit surprised that Rust didn't notice the scars at the time. Rust being a fantastic detective. But he explains that.
I also liked the genuine admiration Rust shows for the detective skills of his partner at at least two places. Rust had originally been highly dismissive of Woody's abilities, but comes to see that Woody is a good 'tec, just different, probably more technical than the intuitive way of Rust. Both are true detectives.

Interesting reading. I was impressed by the size of that brick/stone building hidden/forgotten. How something like that can lapse from the minds and memories. Hidden histories.

It is but its certainly not without precendent. I cant link it from work but there are whole forums dedicated to the decay of buildings. There used to be an old Mental Asylum near me that went downhill in about 10 years. We regularly used to get inside the old buildings as teens. Never at night though, Im not that brave!

Mostly demolished now for a housing development!

It was fascinating inside.

Thanks, just seen a clip on YT to jolt the memory...the dodgy beard may have covered it up!

Rust didn't have the benefit of being able to google for spoilers though!

just finished the last episode of this last night - been watching it with the missus and both really impressed, great series!!

however, tiny bit let down at the end, felt after such a slow burn it was all just over too quickly without really explaining anything - didn't get to find out hardly anything about the guy

might invest in the boxset tho when it comes out, especially if they do a version that includes deleted scenes etc.
