just finished the last episode of this last night - been watching it with the missus and both really impressed, great series!!

however, tiny bit let down at the end, felt after such a slow burn it was all just over too quickly without really explaining anything - didn't get to find out hardly anything about the guy

might invest in the boxset tho when it comes out, especially if they do a version that includes deleted scenes etc.
I thought this originally but the more I think about the ending the more I like it. It felt more realistic. It didnt have a really happy ending. They stopped the killer but explaining everything would feel too contrived. How would they realistically know his motives? He was mental, mental people do mental things. Not everything needs explaining.

Im going to buy the boxset as well. I think it will be one of those series that improves on multiple viewings like The Sopranos and also like the Sopranos I originally hated the ending but now I quite like it.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, does anyone else watch The Following.

I enjoy watching it but for totally different reasons. Its just so ludicrous and hammy its like a guilty pleasure.

Agreed! We've stuck with it even though its amazing how many times Kevin Bacon can get shot/knifed and still survive/pursue the baddies! The police over there couldn't catch a cold! Entertaining though!

Really enjoyed True Detective for all the reasons stated on previous posts - MM has done himself a load of good with this and Dallas Buyers Club.

Just finished this on DVD. Reminded me of Zodiac and Seven.

I have to say American television is absolutely having a renaissance these last few years. I actually prefer having so much talent getting channeled into TV rather than film in a way, as there is so much more room to explore in the TV format.

Quite pleased to read it is continuing but in anthology format. As much as I thought Harrelson and McConaughy were central to the success of the show, it feels right to tell a completely different story each season. I just hope T Bone Burnett is involved again, as the music was superb and really helped raise the show up a notch. Oh and Alexandra Daddario is more than welcome to show another appearance. Yow and zer.

Shame Farell is in it. He is a very boring actor. I hope they get a 'McCOnhery' type to play against him.

Read your post and thought it was a joke ! That's very odd casting, I think the only serious role I've seen him in was Jurassic Park 3, everything since then has been a comedy.

I'm more concerned about a Fast and the Furious director doing the first two episodes.

Hope that was a joke, VV is a pretty st one-dimensional comedy actor too IMHO

I hope the 2nd series keeps the edginess and unpredictability of the first - I fear this might not be the case

Looks like Rachel McAdams is on board too, that's going to be a bit, er, distracting. cloud9

Watched the series this week. Wow is all I can say.

The scary thing is, it's not hard to imagine something like that happening in those parts of the world.

Anyone find the way in which Marty managed to some how connect the green house paint with green ears. Seemed a little farfetched for me. Also the way the old lady managed to remember things with such detail from nearly 20 years ago.

Also, why was there no closure as to why Marty's daughter Audrey had sketches of names/symbols related to the cult in her diary. In addition, the way she arranged those dolls and draw pictures of people having intercourse. Seems she had experienced the cult herself from someone close to her.

Watched all 8 eps over the last week. Staggeringly good TV.

Did feel that the quality dipped a little in the last 2 episodes and a lot of what made it great was set-aside for a more standard police procedural. Some of the sense of decay and foreboding was lost as they quickly drove around a load of potential informants and it was all a little too neat and by the numbers.

Also a shame that the killer was ultimately just an insane hillbilly stereotype. I was expecting there to be more to the mythology and his motives rather than it just being a brilliantly executed - but cliched - chase of a nutter through some dark caves.

I get the sense that they weren't sure at the time if it was going to go beyond 8 episodes or into a 2nd season, then decided at a late stage to wrap it all up in 2 episodes.

Still, nothing's perfect and overall you'd have to say that hour-for-hour the 8 episodes are possibly the highest quality bit of telly ever made....brilliant.
