Watched ep2 last night. Couldn't understand any of the crook's mumbling in bed in the first scene that went on for ages.

Pretty sure that I was gonna give up on it until the last scene. Maybe I'll watch that episode again with the subtitles on.

Certainly hasn't grabbed me like season 1 did.

It does seem to be much more clichéd than the first. In a few ways, it reminds me of one of Michael Mann's early works, To Live and Die In LA, from the mid '80's - but back then, that style was pretty fresh.

I was close to turning it off and giving up on the whole series during the opening scene.

Well I like it ..

I don't think it's too slow at all. The people that do can't have liked Better Call Saul much.

As I've never seen that I can't pass comment except that TD2 is a fk sight slower than TD1. Also the actors with the exception of Vince Vaughan and possibly Rachel McAdams aren't in the same league as those in series 1 imgo

In S1 I would be mesmorised by Matthew's talks to camera, from the 1st episode.

This new one just feels like a typical US crime drama trying to be high brow.

Oh! for the record I loved Better Call Saul, so I have no problem with slow as long as it's done well/has a need for it smile

I was able to understand just fine, I suppose living in the US for 16 years helps understand the accents and regional slang.

You should go back and listen/read it. It was a pretty horrific story which certainly moved me. frown

Call me a techie or a snob, but I'm watching TD on a 110 inch projector screen - and regardless of having a centre speaker that costs a few grand, it still sounded crap.

I ended up putting subtitles on. Did you record the 2am showing by any chance?

Not only was the dialogue quiet, but because it was quiet you could hear the digital compression so loud it was like a whisper whilst he was speaking.

Sky channels at different times get different bandwidth. I'm recording the 9pm showing next. Or, funnily enough, the download versions for other similar shows sound/look better.

I had no problems at all hearing the dialog, I didn't see it on Sky though so maybe that was the problem ?

The problems I had with the 2nd episode were the scenes in the car between Farrel and McAdams, it felt *very* flat - almost as if there was something missing which suggests there is no chemistry between the actors. This was what I really enjoyed about S1, the interplay between the cast was excellent.

Yes, that's what I heard too, most noticeable in-between the (barely audible) dialogue. Was pretty poor.

Indeed.

Although, many scenes in S1 were a mumblefest too.

Caught the 2nd episode last night and against popular opinion I think this is better than season 1.

For me its promising a good story arc wondering how they will all fare, what their secrets are and if they will play along (or not), what Vince will do now his backs against the wall and who is the killer.

Also, the music is excellent and fits the scene / mood very accurately.

I just don't see it. The story, characters and dialogue so far have been done many times before in other TV shows and movies. I've seen nothing original or particularly interesting and the soundtrack has been memorable for all the wrong reasons (awful theme, depressing bar music). At times it almost comes across as a parody of season 1 for me.

Each to their own though of course and glad you're enjoying it. smile

I make the 'mistake' of clicking on s01e01. It was instantly so much more engaging. Makes me want to watch it again.
