I haven't watched (or even heard of) Fortitude. 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. Why is this deemed bad?

TD1 is the best TV series of its kind ever made. Utterly superb in every way.

For me, 2 was as bad an 1 was good, and 3 was bearable.

I’ll hold off 4 until all episodes are available.
Series 1 was so good nothing was ever going to get close. Same with Westworld.

Think with both of those they should have just quit after S1

I've just started to watch S1 again. Such a while back when it was shown I can't remember too much about it other than that it was pretty good

We just discovered this, watching s1 now. Dense, heavy, intelligent script, heavily dialogue based, unremittingly bleak. Love it.

There’s lots of interesting analysis and insights in to S1 on line… one of my favourites is McConaughey taking a 24 page document to his audition, minutely detailing how his characters personality would develop over the 10 hours.

His subsequent performance is absolutely peak character acting.

It is very similar but I think better it's marginal though.

Alexandra Daddario peaks in her acting also, or something like that.

Series 1 also made the Louisiana location into a character of its own which worked fantastically well.

Completely agree. I remember watching TD1 on a flight over to America and did every episode back to back - it was the best flight i've ever been on. I didn't even eat a meal I was that enthralled by it. One of the best things I've ever watched.

TD1 was is a series (along with the Wire/the Shield) I can watch again, 2/3 were decent but 1 had set the bar so high they were never going to compare.

I'll start watching TD4 at the weekend

Watched all of Season 1 recently as somehow missed it when it came out first…superb TV. Started S4 last night , thought it quite slow in parts but prob enough in it to keep watching. Haven’t seen Fortitude.

Just watched episode 2. Very good with slow burn paying off. Ep1 started a slow start but after watching Ep2, it's starting to feel like the best series since S1. Lot's of parallels. Without giving too much away, it seems there some nods towards something infamous that happened in the late 1950's. If you know, you know.

Two strong female leads (which seems to be a bone of contention for some, sadly). I also like the light it shines on traditional Indian communities and struggles with identity and traditional culture (it's subtle and not main focus of the show). Hardly see them represented in mainstream shows.

There was a really slow burn detective series set perhaps in Alaska on BBC a few years ago, Cardinal. Worth a watch.

Would also highly recommend the HBO sleeper series Sharp Objects. Excellent acting and writing - gives off a lot of TD1 vibes.

In fairness they could have doubled down on this and made Prior the bumbling idiot, but his character is developing nicely as the competent padawan.

Agree with everything else you say - can't wait for ep3!

Agreed - I'm liking his character too. The protege has a brain unlike his father.

One of my favourite series ever. "Don't tell Momma!"
