Ep 2 done.
Yeah it was a good ep, nice and slow, similar in pace to the wire.
Also, I spotted Brother Mouzone. biggrin
Look out for Lester Freamon too.

Outrageously good show. Are there any other people here who have basically become HBO snobs like myself? HBO shows just st on everything else IMO.
I have to say that after BoB and The Wire, GoT, what else, oh yes Treme, that every time I see and hear the "White noise / static HBO screen" it predisposes me to think I will enjoy this.

Clearly not everything follows that, but even so,

Mrs FiF enjoyed it, particularly the fact that you had to concentrate. She might get round to The Wire one day. She avoided GoT for ages and now can't wait for S4. There's hope for the old gal yet. Makes a change from Midsomer Bloody Murders at least.

Will be watching this on UK scheduling, so appreciate the use of spoilers by those watching on US or Internet. Thanks in advance.

I know what you mean but there's also a place in the world for fluff TV

I love most of the HBO stuff but I see it more as an event. I am quite happy to chill out in front of nonsense like Strike Back or Hawaii 5 0 as well if I just want to relax.

Yeah they both have their places.
Stuff to watch over the laptop and stuff to concentrate one. biggrin

io9 article on Rust's mind.
I have not read it because it has spoilers, io9n is a yank site.

Starz and Showtime have some good stuff too. The only network drama I have honestly enjoyed in the past year or so was Vegas and that was pretty lightweight. Hostages was ok but too long and a bit silly. BBC America shows some good stuff. They just showed a 4 part series called "Fleming, the man who would be Bond" which I don't think got a showing in the UK? It was pretty good. They also showed Broadchurch last year which I thought was excellent.

Fleming is good. It's on Sky Atlantic Wednesdays. Last one this week.

I'm enjoying Fleming but it's nonsense at best. It's not in the same league as the other shows

I'm trying to watch Breaking Bad as well and I can't see what all the fuss is about. It has good episodes but it's generally boring and it doesn't have the same weight as the Wire or The Sopranos did. Apart from Hank I don't even like any of the characters. I also really struggle with Malcolm's dad cooking meth!

Watched the first 2 episodes with the girlfriend tonight. Not much has happened to be honest but I really enjoyed it. It's dark and gritty and has an air of The silence of the lambs about it, Great stuff!

The closest film I could think of was Seven, but Silence is a pretty close fit too.

Not very fair, I think McConaughey and Harrelson are fine actors.

Some of the names I am lost on or forgotten, but the story itself seems to be developing clearly. That is not to say the ending is predictable as there is still scope for a massive twist.

Anyone see MM's Oscar speech the other night? He's obviously a religious man so playing Rust Cohle must be interesting for him.
