Wheeler Dealers 2014/2015 - New Series
Discussion
The thing I didn't like was the almost constant background music that you get in programs like Fast n Loud. WD is a bit more serious and technical when it comes to the work that is done on the car, and the silence when Ed talks is much much better than some diddery nonsense background racket.
I like both Fast n Loud and Wheeler Dealers due to their differences, they compliment each other almost perfectly IMO, so seeing this show become more like that one isn't good.

I've just watched the first episode, featuring the GTO. When I heard that the new series was to be filmed in the States I was a little bit dubious. However, I really enjoyed the show. It transferred seamlessly over the pond.
Same here and at one stage I thought they were back in Blighty such was the similarity of the garage. Didn't like the music though. Not everyone's musical taste is the same so just don't have any. Matt_N said:
Nope, not all, rest of the series:
Ford F1
MGA
BMW 2002ti
AMC Pacer
Datsun 240Z
VW 181
De Soto
bah what a load of st, stacks of interestings cars to be had for little money in the states and they decide to do a frigging datsun, MGA and a beetle version of the mini moke.Ford F1
MGA
BMW 2002ti
AMC Pacer
Datsun 240Z
VW 181
De Soto
meh.
'69 Vette for $7k http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevrolet-Corvette-Stingra...
'68 Cuda for $17.5k, easy resto http://www.ebay.com/itm/Plymouth-Barracuda-BLACK-/...
'69 GTX for $6k, grotty but saveable http://www.ebay.com/itm/Plymouth-GTX-GTX-/27181775...
'67 GTX $12k, not too bad http://www.ebay.com/itm/Plymouth-GTX-gtx-/25188520...
'70 Roadrunner $27k, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Plymouth-Road-Runner-2-Doo...
All of the above will fetch $100k easily if done right.
On top of that there are loads of other cars - challengers, chargers, coronets, camaros, mustangs, comets, galaxies before we even look outside of the muscle car world. How about a 30s straight 8 buick ? or a '50 shoebox ford ? even a freshen up of a hot rod could be cheap enough, being in LA surely a '32 Ford roadster is the way to go ?
Uninspired choices to be honest.

But we've seen all those time and time again on all the other 'Overhaulin' type shows - I think it's good to have something different. Besides to be worth $100k it takes a lot more than one mans work and requires a huge budget...
Indeed. Standard fayre for Fast n Loud. If they did those cars then doubtless people would be moaning that they were just doing unimaginative restores that we've seen umpteen times on other shows. They can't win really.
Leave the pure Yank muscle to the American shows and do something different - a pair of Brits doing up predominately European cars for the American market.
The point is there is no need to go all the way to the USA to do a datsun, MGA and old BMW. Why not take the opportunity to actually do some American cars
The cars I mentioned are relatively easy to find and will sell easily. there are any number of American cars that could be done, from a 20s REO to a 80s Buick Regal and everything in between.

Because it's been done. It's been done by Fast n Loud, by Overhaulin', by so many shows, again and again and again. There have been episodes of Fast n Loud where Richard Rawlings has freely admitted that Gas Monkey Garage know very little about European cars and that it's an untapped market. So who better to tap into it than Edd and Mike for whom it is bread & butter?
For the American market it'll be a breath of fresh air. And for us it'll be more of the same but with a fresh twist.

I could say the exact same about wheeler dealers and DIY SOS..There have been episodes of Fast n Loud where Richard Rawlings has freely admitted that Gas Monkey Garage know very little about European cars and that it's an untapped market. All these cars have been done over and over.
Who gives a crap about what Rawlings says, he's just another schmuck that lucked in to a TV deal.
When did you last see any of the American shows do a 30s Buick straight 8 ? or a 32 roadster ? or a 59 El Camino ? or a 50 Ford ? how about a 64 Galaxie ? '48 Ford, '37 Chevrolet Coupe ? '63 Corvette maybe ?
Literally hundreds of cars that haven't been touched by any show to do.
Instead they're going to do a 70s German saloon, a jap coupe of the same era and a crappy old british 'sportscar'

So don't watch it then. All these cars have been done over and over.
