Didn't someone from here buy the Mustang they did?
I think he got £500 for appearing on the show
The mustang buyer was on pistonheads but he didn't mention being paid to appear. I have also conversed (on a forum) with the guy that sold the Boxster S and he also didn't say he was paid to appear.I think he got £500 for appearing on the show
I have heard a few people mention this £500 figure but never have I seen it confirmed.

Really liked the 240Z episode, one of the best in a long time. As far as I can tell the 'test drive' roads where no where near Cars and Coffee in Irvine.
Here's a video of someone swapping a 240 engine for all the short attention span folks who don't want to be overly stimulated by the TV https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5zFrAT0gxg

we have seen a few drum-disc brake conversions too.
I was a bit concerned when Ed was fitting the conversion & said they needed to be done up tight as he's apply a lot of force to an ordinary ratchet. I'd rather have seen him using a torque wrench on it.I watched 3, back to back, last night:
BMW 2002 Tii - typical BMW, everything is expensive. Most buyers would have caught a cold with that one, especially in the UK. Wasn't keen on the colour but I suppose keeping it original was the best course. I thought, for a horrible moment, that BMW were going to buy that one too. interesting though.
AMC Pacer - I hate wraps and, while I applaud the creativity, it was a daft car to try to make a profit on and a daft waste of funds that they were never going to get back. The wrap was more than the car cost so I get the "theory" but not the execution (look at all this glass...which I'm going to cover part of...).
Nissan 240Z - this was more like it. Good idea to convert it to manual but all the "mock surprise" at how straightforward it was would doubtless have been very common knowledge. I was quite surprised at how cheap these car still go for over there (mind you, I was looking at 70s GTOs which go for similar money so it seems some cars have to compete).
I note that Edd is credited as a presenter and not as a mechanic. You'd have thought they could have put him in both categories.

I enjoyed the VW Thing episode, partly because I wasn't previously aware of the car.
Same here. Ok, so it didn't really do anything we hadn't seen before - an engine overhaul of the venerable air-cooled Beetle engine, a $2000 (how much?) front disc brake conversion, some welding and powder-coating, and some re-trimming, but I still quite enjoyed it.
I enjoyed the VW Thing episode for the same reason, I didn't even know they existed (not a big VW fantatic and I have never seen one before).
There always seems to be one episode in the series where (in my opinion) they ruin a car, the Pacer, the RX-7 with the snakeskin dipped wheels in one of the previous series springs to mind as another example.

I was surprised that it was a late 60s car. I thought it was WW2 vintage. Doesn't mean that I didn't like it.I liked the simple idea of cutting a disc to do a [edit]
I was very disappointed that he didn't repair the heater thermostat. It looked like some very simple engineering. The same with the fuel pump. A few light taps with a hammer to try and get it going. If that failed, fit an £25 electric fuel pump from a motor factors. I think they have too much money now. In the good old days, those two parts would have blown the budget.

Indeed I saw an old Mk2 golf episode the other day, the total budget was £1000, the car cost around £640 (or something like that) Ed had to fix it with the remaining ~£360.But things move on with time; you can't do a lot of these more interesting and different cars with a grand any more, especially anything with a cult following. I'd much rather watch an episode of WD than the current Top Gear (just before the Clarkson incident).

Admittedly, WD is less formulaic & tired than TG. It's a shame that the Clarkson effect has meant that shows like this won't touch old Vauxhalls. I'd love to see a Manta or Astra GTE being given the WD treatment, but alas... no chance.

A bit extreme taking the engine out, but makes it easier for the cameras I guess.
Taking the engine out of a Beetle floorpan is the work of a few minutes, especially for a VW nut like Edd. If you need to do any work on the engine it's almost always quicker and easier to drop the engine than try to do it in situ.A bit extreme taking the engine out, but makes it easier for the cameras I guess.
