A new direction? Building an unfinished kit car, perhaps? There's plenty of those around. More likely than buying a kit from Caterham.

Haha...funny that...I went to see the Maserati Gt3000 they did last series, a friend was in the market for one but didn't buy because it was too pricey and had had 12 owners. Met up with the guys in the workshops and saw all the cars from the last series. I spoke to the producer and told him they should get a ropey old swept wing Caterham and bring it up to date. Seems they listened although the car for sale looks new!

Hmmm, yes. Scope for Edd to point out what the previous builder got wrong maybe. Although possibly wouldn't fit the format of the show as they have to squeeze it into 30 mins or however long it is they devote to Edd's spannering out of the hour-long show.

Let's face it, "A car is born" managed to stretch it out to a whole series. smile

Edit:

That sounds far more like the kind of thing WD do.

Could be another conversion from race to road car like he did on trading up?

I have just read the advert again and something doesn't add up. It says it is a 2015 car, it is registered on a 64 plate and has the new badge. All suggesting it is a new car.

Then it says it presents like a new car, I'd hope so if it is... Strange thing to put, unless it isn't a new car. But then how did it get a 64 plate?

Like the Cobra they did, you cannot get a plate for the car until it's passed the IVA, this must be the same?

is that the thing if you use a new chassis you need a new plate? or if you change so many bits it's essentially a triggers broom and a new car?

Yes, but you'd get given a Q plate then, not a new year-based plate.

Ah yes, I recall now, I had a freind who had altered a mk5 fiesta considerably and it got a q plate. I've just looked at the gov website and it now states that Q plates are for cars whos age is in doubt.

https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/q-registra...

and if it's a kit car it can get a new reg.
https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/new-regist...

and if its a reconstructed kit car https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/reconstruc... it would get a Q

so if it was a half built kit car that was never registered it would get that 64 plate then?

seems a bit of a minefield...

Cars registered in Jan - March 2015 would have been given a 64 plate.

"in partnership with the Caterham Factory" = interesting.

Doesn't have the usual caveat "the buyer must be willing to be filmed".

Looks a very nice car, though.

Exactly. Considering it likely hasn't been used since then, and is essentially new car, why bother with the presents like a new car comment...

WD tries to do different things, after all showing 100 oil changes wouldn't leave many viewers.
Why not work with a coach builder, factory or after market designer to show off new things?

Paying £1650 for a pair of manifolds to release an extra 10% power, so about 15bhp, on a Rover P5B is about the craziest use of £1650 I can think of.

Still, at least they didn't wrap it in dayglo vinyl.

But people will happily pay £100 for <1bhp in an air filter.

Apparently the manifold needed replacing anyway & +10% power is actually a pretty decent return.
I've seen them spend more money than that on much dafter things.
