I'm confused.

There is the series based in the USA, then later in the year, a U.K. Based series?

If that's the case, great.

I liked the new episode. Yes it did feel very American, but that's no bad thing, the show is maturing, evolving and developing as almost an international brand.

Mike does little live broadcasts from his 'phone in Facebook, and I have heard him respond to I guess online criticism that they've moved to the states.

The price in dollars did annoy me, but as said above things are bought and sold in the show in USD. Mike did mention pounds at the end. There is an easy way to overcome this. Have an easily edited in summarise section that Mike can voice in USD for the US and then in GBP for the UK.

I do hope there will be more of the actual wheeler dealing, Mike finding some old boy in a shed who sells seats or whatever, and who gets the Mockney, "I'll give you a pony and we'll all 'ave a cuppa tea. Owld aht yer aynd." Stuff. I know that irritates some, but to me it's part of the fun of the show.

And where's the mono-syllabic Paul, who Ed gets in to pump the brake pedal or help remove a windscreen? Living the high life in California with them I hope.

Correct. They now make two series per year, alternating between UK and USA.

As I understand it, monosyllabic Paul was the actual chief mechanic to the mechanics team, and was the actual Knowledge. I think he may have left now, or at least taken a non-screen role.

That's not to say Edd is just a presenter - he's got history of proper spannering.

That's the Paul who has the valuable registration on that yellow Mercedes truck, and was credited as 'Technical Director' or somesuch in earlier series. I think he does OK.

I hope he is OK. I always enjoy his appearances. A bit like Big Ron who was in EastEnders but who probably only said three words.

I'm glad there'll be a British series too. Best of both worlds.

As an aside, I'd love to see Edd and James May work together in a project. I'd be surprised if they're not pals actually.

When was the last series of Wheeler Dealer on? Have a missed a UK series?

I am sure the last series I watched was US. I was beginning to lose interest though.

Edd did the cars in the top gear episode with the cars welded on top of each other

Wouldn't be viable. The hairdressing budget would break the bank.... hehe

I watched a few episodes from series 1 and series 2 yesterday, and I can't believe how long they spend on really quite trivial things. And Edd talks the viewer through it all in way more detail - like it's a tutorial for DIY mechanics. Something we would expect to see on YouTube these days.

Just serves to show how far the show has come, and how much it has changed.

Just watched the latest one - the 1970's Honda CVCC

God, that was superficial. The trick carburettor and pre-combustion chamber was interesting, but I was disappointed when Edd made a template for a repair panel, started cutting the sheet steel and then suddenly.. boom... it was all formed and ready to fit. I would have liked to have seen that being made.

I'm really not at all convinced about Mike doing half of the spannering by fitting the O2 sensor and gauges. Is Edd being phased out or something?

And the whole hypermiling thing was just pants, and went on far, far too long.

Overall, it was an episode that had a lot of potential and mostly failed to deliver on it.

In contrast, I found it really enjoyable and interesting although the panel being done so quick did make me laugh.

No way Edd is being phased out, why do you think there are usually two seperate elements to the show? Mike appeals to some, Edd appeals to others and both appeal to the rest of the Viewers (well to me at least).

Oh, I wasn't seriously suggesting he was being phased out. I just found it rather incongruous that Mike was doing things that we would normally expect Edd to do.

I also thought it rather odd they spent so much time and effort adding those extra instruments and the O2 sensor when, with hindsight, the car was clearly going to the Honda museum. It was clear from the "haggling" at the end that it had all been pre-arranged. Or so it seemed to me.

Anyway, it wasn't an unenjoyable episode. I just thought it didn't meet its potential, that's all.

Mike doing all that work was weird, I don't think he has ever worked on a car before?!

It seems we have a new thread running for the 2016 series. I recommend we take the discussion over to there.
