. The sooner they turn this into a buying guide program rather than a cleaver "Look me and my mate made a whacking 1k profit on this car" program surely the better?
The better for who though? The hyper realists who want to know every single detail in the car's history or those who cannot BEAR a lie?!!

This argument is so worn out it's ready for Mike to take it to the trimmers where it can be reupholstered in five minutes flat complete with a few gags & a cup of tea thrown in.

It's entertainment pure & simple. Its message if it has one at all is to illustrate how jobs can be tackled at home even without several unseen mechanics, a fully kitted out garage & a much bigger budget than we're letting on.

Why this rubbish about deception comes around every week is a mystery. It's as dull as it is repetitive.
I completely agree with you, Justin. Indeed, I wrote a very similar post to your on a Maserati forumthread about this episode.

It is an entertainment show with two likeable hosts. It patently IS NOT a "How to" show.

to be fair and to be completely honest, as is the "its an entertainment show" comment rolled out every other time someone comments on something shown up to be untrue, these arent blockbuster fictional characters of the silver screen living unreal fantasy lives, its meant to be a show firmly set in reality.... end of discussion. If not they may as well use CGI and have Brewer as a blue 7ft car dealer and Edd as a furry Ewok repairing a cheaply bought (because the hyper drive was on the firtz) hard handshaked on YT-1300 interstallar light freighter..

I can accept the fact that Mate's rates labour costs are absorbed but omitting that the fking shocks and actuators were shot on this car is simply stupid. The work to fix all shocks and actuators sits around 3k. So they bought this car for 7K and probably spent 8k on fixing it up if you take into account all the binnacle st and Pedal Pot which wasn't even documented too. I am all for a bit of bending the truth but neglecting to add all those extra bits is just fking stupid.

It's not stupid. It's an hour long television programme that needs a beginning, a middle and an end.

A previous owner had tried to deliberately deceive future purchasers by cutting and rewiring the binnacle in lots of different places - it was much more serious than covered in the show."
I very much got that impression from the various bodges evident, such as the bi-wired throttle pots, the flying wire to the engine warning light, and the like. Absolutely stunk of it, to me.

fair enough, but why make them up and not give a true representation of what really happened?

It's a fair point. I'd have liked to have seen them declare an epic loss on this one, whilst making the point that you have to be so careful when buying an expensive car of unknown provenance with lots of owners and how they can quickly turn into a money pit for the unwary.

My old dad (before he went) said these programmes are enjoyable not because they're realistic but because they give us the "hit" of doing the classic car restoration/ catching that big fish (a la Matt Hayes or Rex Hunt) without actually moving from our armchair.
My 12 year old son was so obsessed with WD, I bought him a Mk4 Golf Gti Mot failure to do up and sell on but it only took him about 30 seconds to realise the difference between reality and a reality TV show. Happy (albeit lucky) ending though - it sat in the yard for a couple of months until another Edd China wannabe came along and bid me £400 quid more than I paid for it. Now that's the way to make money! hehe

The Scottish seller - st couldn't stick! He had an answer for everything, if he's not selling something he should be.

Lovely car in the end. But for any would be amateurs, a heck of a lot of fancy kit and specialist knowledge to manage.

The 3200GT buyer, was he genuine? I know you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but he struck me more as hipster-mate-of-one-of-the-production-crew, or perhaps one of the actual crew?.

Normally the genuine buyers have have agreed the price in advance and go through the whole "meet you in the middle/put yer hand there, you just bought a <XXXXX>" schtick and althought they don't make very convincing actors you can at least see that they want the car. This bloke didn't even seem remotely interested in it, he could've been buying a tin of beans!

Just like Top Gear, it has become too successful and has to cater to an audience that is not knowledgable about the subject (but has a passing interest) and wants to be entertained.

I'm sure that if Edd wasn't an exec prod, there would be a lot less garage and much more cheeky chappie. There can't be many viewers wanting to see a guy drilling the crud out of a throttle body compared to the number wanting to see someone with chips outside a casino in Skeggy.

Most people have a hobby that costs money. I see nothing wrong with a hobby that gives you the pleasure of knowing that you have returned something back to how it should be. It would be nice to make a profit everytime, but it's not neccessary. It's a shame they didn't admit that the 3200 was a money pit. Perhaps they didn't want to discourage others from taking the supercar risk.

yes

Oh yes indeed... excellent evening of car TV (not watched CCR on Channel 5 as it is a very poor relation).

Loved that Amazon (prefer mine though!) and the Camaro was a really nice car. Not too sure about the bodge on the SS wing badge myself but it was a spot on episode aside from that.

But the only down was an oddly painted badge, so not bad at all,

My amazon needs a bit of TLC.

True, but it's the principle of the thing... why not put a generic 'V8' badge on the wing rather than an incorrect model designation?

Has tonight's Car SOS inspired you to sort your Amazon out? What needs doing?

She's not too bad, has the unleaded conversion, overdrive and basically solid, but there is always rust to fix, and would like to sort the suspension a little with classicswede springs/shocks and a 123 distributer, then I'm about there.

Been thinking about the 123 dizzy myself... really want to save up for some Torq Thrusts though.

I'd have flogged off the 350 and slushbox and then fit it with a 396 with a 4 speed manual and then reflect the conversion costs in the price agreed. The car would then have deserved to be left with the badges.Personally I think the re sale stated in the programme was too high for the 350 and auto combination but would have been worth a bit more with the 396 and manual conversion.

I'd like to know how pissed Ed was when he put the steering wheel back on. It wasn't even close to straight.
