Wheeler Dealers 2014/2015 - New Series

Loved the Camaro however hated the "SS" badge bodge, it looked really second rate and half arsed, surely a Chevrolet logo badge could have been sourced somewhere.
Don't know if this has been mentioned elsewhere; why does Ed never drive the cars on the public road, he drives them if they go to a track but he never does on the road?

That was my exact thoughts as well, a chevy bow tie badge would have been far nicer and though not correct for the car (neither is the SS badge) would have looked far nicer than the "stealth" SS badge which just looked like cheap stick on tat.Don't know if this has been mentioned elsewhere; why does Ed never drive the cars on the public road, he drives them if they go to a track but he never does on the road?
In all fairness thats the only real falt I can find with this weeks car, everything else seemed spot on.

Anyone see "For the Love of Cars" on C4? Seems to be yet another car restoration programme, but more about the history of the car whilst also doing the standard restoration, sourcing parts, spannering stuff.
The one I saw was on the Escort Mexico. It was rather good.
If it wasn't for the nine page thread on it,we would have no idea what you are on about. The one I saw was on the Escort Mexico. It was rather good.
that camaro really was in ace condition given its vintage.
surely the makers have sent Mike off at some point in the past and somebody has palmed them off with a proper shi*ter which on the face of it looks OK to Mikes eyes but that they "lose" a fortune on and Edd loses the will to live on.......thats the show I want to see rather than it being left on the editing suite floor.

I am just about certain that they do a vast amount of research on the cars they buy before doing all the "pretending to buy" as Mike has an uncanny knack of being able to divine mechanical problems and thus appear far more knowledgable than I'm sure he is. I'm sure it's all roughly costed out in advance, with help from specialists.surely the makers have sent Mike off at some point in the past and somebody has palmed them off with a proper shi*ter which on the face of it looks OK to Mikes eyes but that they "lose" a fortune on and Edd loses the will to live on.......thats the show I want to see rather than it being left on the editing suite floor.
It's come up in the past that researchers scuttle off & find cars that have just the right amount of knackered on them. IIRC some guy with a 914 wrote a piece on how they came down to look at his but decided against it as it was in too good condition for the show.
Saying that, there was the beach buggy I think it was that turned into Trigger's broom where they more or less retained one headlight & a switch from the donor car & that old Mk 11 Jag was well known in Jag circles to have been a bit of a nail before WD got hold of it.

The Jag looked OK except for the inside which was wrecked and that is what they fixed on the program. The wrecked inside would have made it look like a nail to most people.Saying that, there was the beach buggy I think it was that turned into Trigger's broom where they more or less retained one headlight & a switch from the donor car & that old Mk 11 Jag was well known in Jag circles to have been a bit of a nail before WD got hold of it.
One that they were screwed over by was the Suzuki Jeep. They couldn't even get it through an MOT, and had to sell it to a dedicated off-roader.
Another that Mike was screwed over by was the Beetle that Edd had told him how to check, but Mike bought a lemon (engine-wise) anyway.
A very extensive interview with Mike & Edd here....

I'd like to know how pissed Ed was when he put the steering wheel back on. It wasn't even close to straight.
Too right, that was sending me into a OCD frenzy, watching Mike travelling on a straight bit of road with the 3 spoke wheel pointing sideways whilst them talking about it being a £20k+ car was terrible. How can a car be a pleasure to drive like that? Also was it just me that kept expecting Edd to mention something about adjusting the tappets , that engine sounded like it had no oil in it.
On the whole it's certainly one of the better episodes!

The Jag has been raced for years & was well mucked about with mechanically. It came up loads with the internet sleuths who know about these things. I remember the Jeep though, there's no way that would have got all the way to the end of the show without Edd noticing it was rotten. It's the magic of television! One that they were screwed over by was the Suzuki Jeep. They couldn't even get it through an MOT, and had to sell it to a dedicated off-roader.

I don't really understand why they did another Camaro. It wasn't that long ago they turned over the old lady for the white one, was it?
Not surer why they really objected to the SS clone idea either, they do it in the US all the time and I rather got the impression this one started as a six pot ergo not matching numbers ergo not the holy grail in the US hence the lower price.
As for the '68 being the best, I've always had a penchant for the Germanic-inspired 69s.

There was nothing wrong with anyone trying to make as close as it gets to an SS and then putting the badges on as part of that but the fact is a 350 with a slush box doesn't cut it and the seller and Ed knew it.The question is why didn't they then do the job properly by ditching the inferior engine and box combination in favour of a 396 and manual box conversion being that the car's condition seemed to justify it.Not surer why they really objected to the SS clone idea either, they do it in the US all the time and I rather got the impression this one started as a six pot ergo not matching numbers ergo not the holy grail in the US hence the lower price.
As for another Camaro it's American classics which make some of the most interesting Wheeler Dealers episodes so the more the better.
