Blimey. Car restoration shows really are the new Home Improvement shows aren't they. Obviously the "in thing" right now.
Restoration garage is very much like Phantom Works if you saw that?American based so mainly American cars but it's ok so far, some wild prices being thrown around mind!
I raised a similar question on the Fast N Loud thread, why do these shows seem to prefer selling at auction?
Over here you'd expect to achieve a lower auction price than a private or off the forecourt sale, is it different in the states?
I know they are selling at big and prestigous auctions but they never seem to make what they expect.

Sometimes it seems that the car, just by being a GMG offering, has trouble selling. Over here you'd expect to achieve a lower auction price than a private or off the forecourt sale, is it different in the states?

I'd like to know how pissed Ed was when he put the steering wheel back on. It wasn't even close to straight.
I noticed that too.

Loved the Camaro however hated the "SS" badge bodge, it looked really second rate and half arsed, surely a Chevrolet logo badge could have been sourced somewhere.
Yes. That decision really let down the car.HTP99 said:
Don't know if this has been mentioned elsewhere; why does Ed never drive the cars on the public road, he drives them if they go to a track but he never does on the road?
He does drive on the road sometimes...(From another thread)

Is that like putting an 'M'' badge on a bog standard BMW?
Have you seen the show? Whoever did most of the resto in the US badged it up as an 'SS', including drilling holes in the wing to mount period chrome badges. As it wasn't technically 'SS' spec then the WDs solution (rather than a costly remove badges/fill holes/repaint) was to just paint the badges blue to match the rest of the car .... PurpleTurtle said:

The car was not bog standard either, so may as well have kept the nice SS badges, the filler also looked very sorry for itself all plain and drab.
Well exactly. It appeared to be a boggo sixer Camaro with no power anything that had been uprated to a V8. originality was hardly in the brief and, outside of America, nobody would even know the slightest difference. It's not like it was heading for any concours competition.Ask even ardent motoring fans what the distinctions are between base, Z28 and SS and most will stare at you blankly.

I think they sell the program to the Yanks and a wrongly badged Camaro would be as bad to them as a 320d badged as an M3 would be to us.
You could be right. But painting the SS side badges in body colour in the hope they would go away was just the worst of both worlds; the worst kind of no-man's land bodge. Either remove them all or don't remove any of them. If they had chosen to keep them all they could have legitimately claimed it was an SS tribute or reproduction. The side repeaters was a reasonable idea as that could be argued to be as important for UK roads as the PAS and brake servo. Or failing that, some generic Chevrolet badges to match the one they put on the grille. I mean, let's be honest, with the list of non-standard parts it had on it (brakes, PAS, engine, custom wiring loom) it wasn't exactly being sold as a genuine anything anyway.

No, they do clones or "tributes" quite regularly, in the US and nobody cares as long as it's clearly and overtly noted as being a clone. My 05 Mustang has styling features of a Mach 1 but isn't and doesn't purport to be. However, if I stuck Mach 1 badges on it, nobody would mind because it plainly isn't and would be a "tribute".
