I think I have been watching WD for too long now. I have found the last two episodes pretty boring to be honest. They seem to be buying cars that need very little work done to them at all. I was actually really looking forward to last nights episode because I love old Jags but when Mike was browsing the ads and said that these cars can be had for as little as £5k but he would be spending £10-11k on one I knew it wasnt going to be a great episode (for me).

Compare this episode to the TVR one where they stripped and repaired the chassis or the Morgan where they completely replaced the chassis and you will see where I am coming from.
I think, in fact I'm pretty sure that the Cerbera had a complete chassis replacement, too. One of my favourite episodes..

yes

The chassis was scrap, they reconditioned another one and fitted it.

smile I bet you like the Elise episode? Although not sure a port and polish alone would have produced so much extra bhp....

One of the worst episodes, for me, was where they took a perfectly straight and clearly well looked after Porsche 924 (or may have been a 944) and then turned it into a Track Slag. I felt they should have started with a more unloved car.

I've said it before, but the best episodes are where they restore (and possibly save) a tired example, rather than when they take one with not much wrong with it and try to "improve" it.

We don't talk about that episode. It never happened.

Just watching it now.

Is Edd really using a £600 tool to avoid replacing a £120 part?

WD really has moved away from its "you could do this yourself" roots, hasn't it? I bet the labour spent on refurbishing the pump was more than £120 too, even ignoring the £600 tool.

I presume the £5k cars needed a ton of welding and was too involved, by the time they had bought a load of patch panels and then got it painted it wouldn't have made any money, certainly they wouldn't have got anywhere near the standard of that car.

Strikes me there was an awful lot of padding in this episode - the whole water pump thing would have been 2 minutes if they had replaced it, instead they filled quite a bit of time andprobably got a bung from the manufacturer of the whizzy tool.
Dicking about measuring the spark gap was pointless - yes we know an electronic ignition will be stronger, but it only still needs to go 30 thou or whatever.
Messing about with the battery cooler "oh look it all works after I've taken it apart". Meh.

What they should have done is go through an inspection/service. Wheel bearings, brakes, prop, rear axle, suspension bushes, brake lines, tyre wear etc there may not have been anything wrong with the jag, but they could have shown/explained what/why/how to check.

I agree. In years gone by, they'd have just mentioned in passing that they replaced the water pump, the electronic ignition would have been done in half the time, and the battery fan wouldn't have even been mentioned. But that's what happens when you buy a sorted car.

I don't often watch this, but there were two episodes on Quest last night with a quattro, and as I've always wanted a quattro I thought I'd give it a go. It did look as if they were going to stick a hideous interior in it (blue, in a champagne gold car) but to my relief they didn't. Car looked quite nice, but I tuned out before they mentioned when it was filmed. Not a great colour for a quattro, lots of editing problems (the short one pointing to how great a job of repainting the bumpers they'd done, when the scratches were still there) but not the worst of this kind of show by a long way.

The "two 30-min episodes per car" format is one of the earlier series - they dropped that format in favour of "one 60-min episode per car" format. The show has been running for almost 11 years now and is in its 11th series.

A quick scan of Wikipedia suggests that the Quattro episode you watched was from Series 6 in 2009.

Sounds about right - C-reg car being described as a 23-year-old.

Currently, Quest is showing two old Wheeler Dealer series. Two half-hour episodes (twice) daily and a one-hour episode weekly (several times).

(And Overhaulin' twice daily. And a series on American dirt track racing called Heartland Thunder starts next week.)

If anyone from the show is reading this...

Get a series 1 Land Rover done!

Long overdue.

I'll act as technical advisor if neccessary!

Are the Overhaulin shows the ones that still featured Adrienne Janec?
