Just watching the Lincoln one now.

One thing I am really not liking at all is that whilst Mike is buying the car, they're showing little flash-forward spoilers of Edd saying what is wrong with the car. Not "coming up" ones, but more like what seemed to be actual spoilers.

Then it went to adverts, and when it came back it then went over the whole buying process again as a recap.

Good program, the American's did have some weird ideas in that era, vacuum powered door locks?

Needed air ride though...
I have had a car with vac locks and for the life of me I cant recall what it was - maybe a Bentley Turbo ?
Nearly all Mercedes for many years. Originally charging up a rubber bladder with air then run from an electric compressor.

The vacuum lock struck me as not being very secure, or being too secure wink. If the air leaks, the locks will either not work or will do strange things that you don't want.

Are they fail-safe?

Were those the ones that could be unlocked with a tennis ball cut in half ?

What was odd to me was that the car seats were all electrical motors, but that the locks were vacuum operated.

EDIT: Internet says tennis ball is a myth frown

Guessing 50 years ago there wasn't that much car crime?

My 84 Mercedes W123 had vacuum central locking. Nightmare to operate and restore!

One thing I would say about this series is there is far too much Americana. There are 423 other programs offering the exact same thing and it's all getting a bit boring.

Also agree with the flashes of what's coming up- give the whole game away why don't you?

although replacing the wing on the old merc w123 is to be applauded out in the non tv world 9 times out of 10 that wouldnt have been a new wing job but as all the swage and shut lines lined up a bit of filler then paint would have been the faster turnaround. that might not stand up quite so well with an oe merc panel but Edd used a pattern wing creating all kinds of issues for him.

they do do jobs that sometimes arent essential especially if youre making out the budget is tight ie : £300 quids worth of new headlights on the TT as the milky lights were still useable albeit cosmetically letting the car down a bit, the purchase of the 2nd XR2 seemingly just for the parcel shelf and bumper and a foglight at a cost of £1000, new battery on the Integrale, some jobs for minor items requiring dashboards to be removed, list goes on. still love WDs but wish theyd show how to make a bit more money by leaving out non essential work.

It's on Quest.
Rose tinted motoring at its best tonight. A £3k Defender, resprayed, given a set of alloys, windows added to the rear and a random cam shaft upgrade.
Highly polished turd.

I know this car. It's one i've raced against in "classics" in the Caterham Graduates Club.

I'm just watching the one on the Subaru WRX on quest. What in the name of greek buggery were they thinking of with the stripes??

Other than that, I hope the buyers not on here, that sub frame is going to need changing round about now.

Is it me or is there a policy to never mention mileages in this programme? Useful bit of info generally!

Often wondered why Mr China always dry fits new components without using copper grease or some such. Makes dismantling next time so much easier- if the cars are going to last long enough to need it that is.

I often wonder why they purposefully omit any mention of service history or mileage whether they are buying or selling. Are those not the two first things anyone ever asks? It might 'keep it simple' and all about the profit but it ruins their credibility (do they clock them LOLidealaugh). So I'm just in it for Edd's top tips!

Generally the cars are huge miles examples which generally have had a passing interest to servicing hence they are tired /unloved.
