I think his body fat might be bigger than normal for this. He is seriously built in his normal "Animal" mode, but massively cut. He carries very little fat on him in fighting trim, for this he is less cut but bulkier, so I suspect has gone muscle mass and less shaping.
Still not seen this! But I hope to soon, he does look bigger than normal from the stills and trailers. Massive, and pretty nimble too from that one trailer!
I think 300 was probably too heavy, but around 275^ I can see. Impressive too considering his age.
Though he is probably a walking chemical factory. biggrin
He give the Rock a run for his money as a wrestler tuned actor?

Wow - someone rubbed you up the wrong way.

Okay, how about this more practical critique:

If we assume that lead character had tracked down and installed an alternative power supply for his Walkman, how did the tape survive being listened to so many times?
Any kind of future technology could explain this .... Perhaps he's had the tape replicated in some fancy machine.....

( one of those double tape decks.... It's th future dude..... )
well it is a fictional movie with pink and green aliens, so you don't need to try and rationalise the tape part.
but as you are i will just say, he's only been in space about 25 years, i've got tapes older than that i still play.

You have perfectly illustrated my point. Anybody who even vaguely resembles somebody you would care to share a pint with would only be discussing the music aspect of this film in the context of "How cool was it to hear some proper tracks again? Were you grooving in your seat swell?" Anyone who gives a rats arse about the fking mechanics of his working tape deck or the cassette should be shot at dawn for being too dreary to be allowed on the same planet as the rest of us.
Prozac for this man - stat!

It's a Marvel franchise. Those who are likely to be interested based on comic book characters are likely to be of a certain slightly-more-geeky-than-average mindset, and to some people these things matter!

Live and let live, and all that smile

Anyway, I haven't seen it myself - I seem to get to the cinema these days once in a blue moon, and only then either with SWMBO (which would rule out seeing anything like this) or with my daughter (and this isn't an obvious must-see stuff for a 6 year old girl). I can see me having to wait until it appears on Sky Box Office. Sigh.

to be fair my mrs ruled out any future Marvel movies - when she saw the trailers she remained distinctly negative but in the end she was bored and decided to come along.... and really enjoyed it (much to her surprise)

She will enjoy it.

Oh and if going to the pictures is a one way thing. Your wife is very unreasonable,

I'm being a bit unfair to her - if I particularly wanted to see something she wasn't keen on, she'd go. It's more the case that we don't go very often so tend to try to find something we both want to see.

She likes Park & Rec so I'll have to try pushing the Chris Pratt angle when endeavouring to persuade her that she should come and see it biggrin

Apologies only meant in jest, it is a funny film though much more female friendly than some of the more serious ones.

It's a good, old-fashioned action movie that happens to be set in space.

Saw this last night, Toads Capsule review.

Not at all bad. Great effects, funny script and nicely played out. But one of those films that are very, very entertaining when you watch them but afterwards you're struggling to find any moment that you think that was utterly brilliant. Not sure about Karen Gillians part though, from what I saw in the trailer I think a lot of her role might have ended up on the cutting room floor. She just seemed to stand there and snarl, basically. And after his interview a few years ago in which he went into a lengthy diatribe about how offensive Top Gear is, I shed no tears when one character ended up deaded.
But it was very visually attractive and the use of the mixtape to hold the whole thing together was inspired but I would say that wouldn't I? smile

So good yes. Will I see the sequel? hmmm.. maybe. I think if they do get this bunch up on the screen with the Avengers in one film unless its done very well it might just end being a load of shouty nonsense.

Did anyone else think, Dancing Daisy at the end?

Speaking of the end.

If you're reading this Marvel for the love of god, just don't. You've got a good thing going, don't risk it all by bringing back a character who is only 'much loved' because the first attempt at film was the last VHS left on the video store shelf when the then young Marvel executives were stoned out of their gourds on a wet Wednesday afternoon. So don't. You will lose a fortune.

The blockade was amazing, but otherwise I'd have to agree with this. I'd watch it again tho!

Saw it on Saturday in the end, IMAX in Uxbridge.

Loved it. Visually stunning, great score & soundtrack. Liked all the main characters. TBH I can't of anything I didn't like

A great (large tub of, to myself) popcorn movie and a most enjoyable waste of a couple of hours of a Saturday evening.

I worked on this film all summer at Pinewood last year as Daves picture stand in so had direct daily contact with him,James and all the leads as it involves setting up the shot, blocking the movement out then basically telling the actor what to do when he's back from final makeup.Thoroughly down to earth guy,no Hollywood airs of say Dwayne,(who trains at my gym when he's in town).Sat down with him many times and chatted,he loves training, cars and vintage lunch boxes,he is mad on them.

As for his size when we first met he told me he was going to add about ten pounds,he sits around 260 so he was probably 265/270.Im nearly 6'3" similar weight but he's a tad taller so no more than 6'4".He's a little taller than DJ.He looks so big on screen partly because everyone else was so damn small,Zoe is minute and 2 of the characters were never there of course as they're CGI so it was just him,Chris and Zoe mostly.I can see him doing well but not 'Rock well',he doesn't have that movie star persona,he's a very quiet guy and actually switches it on as opposed to having a movie star persona off set, like say DJ,Zoe and even Chris to an extent. He just wants to earn a good living not getting his ass kicked all the time.

The guy has taken a beating for best part of 20yrs so has some injuries but is still a machine at 44 IIRC.Absolute pleasure to work with him and James Gunn and hopefully I'll be back for GOG 2.

Didn't really have any expectations when I went to see it last night, other than half my friends on Facebook posting good things about it.

Loved it! Not a fan of all the marvel/superhero films around these days. Thought this was excellent though, definitely going to preorder the blu ray so I can watch it again.
