I saw it last week. 8.5/10 from me. Probably the best marvel film I've seen, it was funny, action packed, light hearted and fun which was brilliant.

The lead was really good, as was Bautista, but the film was totally Groot's. But I'm not really sure why Vin Diesel was at all the press junkets - he only said three (sorry, four) words throughout and they used someone else for the motion cap stuff.

To answer the question about Karen Gillan's 'vocoder' sounding voice - well yes, she was part android. Thanos had replaced and 'upgraded' many parts of her over time to make her the perfect fighter.

The best bit for me, which encapsulated the whole ethos of the film was when Quill/Star Lord was faced with the big baddie at the end and starts a dance off to distract him. Pure bloody comedy.

Diesel did the motion capture for Groot, someone else stood in for him on set, that might be the confusion.

Vin Diesel as Groot:
A tree-like humanoid[20] who is the accomplice of Rocket. Diesel stated that he provided the voice and motion capture for Groot, after originally being in talks to star in a new Phase Three Marvel film.[21][22][23] Diesel also provided Groot's voice for several foreign-language releases of the film.[24] Krystian Godlewski portrayed the character on set, though his acting was not used in the final character CGI.[25][26] On the character, Gunn said, "All the Guardians start out the movie as bds – except Groot. He's an innocent. He's a hundred percent deadly and a hundred percent sweet. He's caught up in Rocket's life, really." Gunn added that the design and movement of Groot took "the better part of a year" to create.[27] Gunn added, that "The ways in which Vin Diesel says 'I am Groot,' I am astounded. All of the 'I am Groots' that were earlier voices didn't sound very good at all... Vin came in and in one day, laid down all these 'I am Groot' tracks, and he's a perfectionist. He made me explain to him with ever [sic] 'I am Groot,' exactly what he was saying... It was amazing when we first put that voice in there how much the character changed and how much he influenced the character."[28] Diesel found an emotional note in his performance, invoking the death of his friend and Fast and Furious co-star Paul Walker, saying, “This was in December [2013], and the first time I came back to dealing with human beings after dealing with death, so playing a character who celebrates life in the way Groot does was very nice."[29] Groot's form and size changing ability is seen, with Gunn stating he has the ability to grow in the film.[30]

Something I forgot to add:

not sure about the timing/which came first with regards to the comic, but to me, this film felt a LOT like Farscape (This is a good thing smile )

Good not great. Certainly not as good as The Avengers or Iron Man 3 for example.

I wonder if Agents of Shield will now tie in with this as well, considering the guy and girls parentage?

Bit of a Thread bump this, but took my son to see it today.

Enjoyable film, but nowhere near the quality of The Avengers. Was surprised by Battista (?) though, for someone who is normally a wrestler by trade, I thought he gave a commendable performance. Wouldn't mind watching a spin off film with just him in it.

Oh and I'm going to buy myself a dancing Groot when he comes out in December. He's going straight onto my desk at work. Lol.

It was only in the cinema for about 3 months, I can see how youd struggle to see it!

We struggled due to having young child. Couldn't justify cost of childminder for cinema visit. We were just lucky that we happened to visit my parents one weekend so we saw it then. Glad to say we weren't disappointed, very enjoyable film.

I don't want to watch it in a cinema. I prefer the comfort of my own sofa and a cold beer.

I watched it today, finally. It as very good, very funny, and moving.
Bautista wasn't as good as I had expected, but ho-hey, they chose him over Ronan Dex, the leads were very good. Would have preferred Rocket as a cockney, but limitless did a fine job..it got me in a few places too.
Fine bad guys....although the voice of Thanos was quite wrong in my opinion.

I worked on this film all summer at Pinewood last year as Daves picture stand in so had direct daily contact with him,James and all the leads as it involves setting up the shot, blocking the movement out then basically telling the actor what to do when he's back from final makeup.Thoroughly down to earth guy,no Hollywood airs of say Dwayne,(who trains at my gym when he's in town).Sat down with him many times and chatted,he loves training, cars and vintage lunch boxes,he is mad on them.

As for his size when we first met he told me he was going to add about ten pounds,he sits around 260 so he was probably 265/270.Im nearly 6'3" similar weight but he's a tad taller so no more than 6'4".He's a little taller than DJ.He looks so big on screen partly because everyone else was so damn small,Zoe is minute and 2 of the characters were never there of course as they're CGI so it was just him,Chris and Zoe mostly.I can see him doing well but not 'Rock well',he doesn't have that movie star persona,he's a very quiet guy and actually switches it on as opposed to having a movie star persona off set, like say DJ,Zoe and even Chris to an extent. He just wants to earn a good living not getting his ass kicked all the time.

The guy has taken a beating for best part of 20yrs so has some injuries but is still a machine at 44 IIRC.Absolute pleasure to work with him and James Gunn and hopefully I'll be back for GOG 2.
The heights seemed to be all over through the film...I was checking.... biggrin
And, can you get me a job? biggrin

While the end scene was a bit lame, who leaves a Marvel film before the credits???
