Do people actually watch Eastenders? I never hear anyone talking about it.KareemK said:
The film goes on general release today so hopefully someone will pop in to give their NON-SPOILERY review shortly.
Like the other film threads a score out-of-ten would be nice
I'm seeing it at 8.30 tonight so will make my review in the morning (or later on) as no spoilery as I can Like the other film threads a score out-of-ten would be nice

19.45 for me - in 3d (for better or worse)
The reviews all seem to say that this film doesn't need 3D. Will be interesting to hear what you think.KareemK said:

Although I quite detest goggles on my nose in all their variety, this film has perceptible depth compared to, say, the last two I've seen in 3D - Transformers 4 and Winter Soldier. I'd say go for 3D.well as far as a scifi movie goes this was pretty much perfect - the opening scene was (IMO) an emotional sledgehammer and then the main story started. And it had it all, action, humour, amazing scenery. SWMBO is not at all into scifi and came to see (nearly) under protest and she really enjoyed it too. Talking of enjoying it it struck me that the cast seemed to be having a blast as well
As a scfi movie - 10/10
As movie 8.5-9/10
As a scfi movie - 10/10
As movie 8.5-9/10

I have to say... Agree with that. As a scfi movie - 10/10
As movie 8.5-9/10
Easily one of the most enjoyable of the marvel movies and without doubt the funniest. Each character was pretty rich and layered and Dave Bautista as Drax was absolutely superb (was a bit worried how he would be in the role, big yes, but unknown as an actor). Chris Pratt seemed to be channelling Captain Malcolm Reynolds (in a good way) at times and Rocket was as good as I could have hoped.
And I now have hands down without any doubt a new favourite marvel super hero.....

I AM GROOT
Just a magical character
And the two scenes during the credits... I will reveal they are not future movie plot related (so if you miss them don't panic) First one is just flat out funny, second is a total love letter to Marvel fans.... No, can't spoil it but boy did it get a positive reaction with those who hung about for it

Two 10/10 not sure I understand different scores for a film based on genre anyway high praise indeed.
Think I'll watch this weekend if it's ste you two will be on my st list.
I think different scores depending on genre as (IMO) scifi has to have a factor of disbelief built in. For example Pacific Rim as a film would realistically only be a 3 possibly 4 out of 10, the acting was poor the plot, just as bad and as for the logic.... as a scifi movie however it had spectacle and a huge amount of genre pleasing stuff (personally I loved it whilst recognising the shortcomings) so it may have rated a 6.5-7/10...Think I'll watch this weekend if it's ste you two will be on my st list.
quote=geeks]It was pretty good actually SWMBO enjoyed it as well. I am not sure it deserves 10/10 but certainly a solid 8! I didnt get two cut scenes at the end though only one and I stayed way past all the credits
As iroc said, the 10/10 is within the genre it sits. Not overall comparing to every other movie of every type.
Even taking genre out of the equation though it is gleefully aware that movies should be fun and escapist and it just loves playing with such a misfit bunch of characters... It's just a flat out enjoyable movie.
Now I'm sure before long there will be a post stating it's total st and that me and others are wrong and know nothing about movies for liking it etc etc etc. this is Pistonheads afterall.... Opinions vary and god help you if you have a positive one
It's an enjoyable summer movie, I cannot wait to see it again on the big screen, and I cannot wait to see where they take the characters next.
To borrow a (non spoiler) quote from another review I read online...
"GUARDIANS is a film I want to see again and again just to see what's going on in the furthest corners of the screen, because it's all interesting and visually captivating. But the real reason I'll revisit the film is because I love it—with almost no qualifiers, I love it. There is more pure entertainment value per minute than just about any film I've seen this year, and while you can certainly quibble about small details here and there, it doesn't take away from the fact that the film just jumps off the screen and does triple back flips in the name of making you happier than you were when you came into the theater. "
I heartily agree. And that for me is why (in its genre) it gets a solid 10.
Ps. I would happily watch GROOT meet the avengers... In fact that moment will be cinematic bliss!!
