How new is new? I noticed at the end, that the episode was recorded in 2012! MMX11 and yet the cars had 63 plates.
I'm confused as well....Our Tivo wasn't going to record it as it is not flagging up as a new episode. (screened last year according to the Tivo) Looking at the episode guide on Discovery, some episodes do look very familiar.

Really enjoyed that episode much more than i did the recent top gear.
The 3 way test with the GTR 911 and m600 was great also but i would have loved to see a 1/2mile or 1mile drag race or maybe a run from 30mph roll as it does not show the M600 at its best on a short run.
Seeing the Lola Drayson B12/69 EV run was also very interesting.

I enjoyed the show last night. The Mini was very impressive but Plato was fighting the "little fighter".
Loved the triple test although how many Porsche's do they get their hands on?
Seeing the Bertone museum with Stratos, Countach & Miura together was like looking at a part of my dream garage.
Edited for dyxlexic fingers

The straights on the 2 lap race showed the Noble's strength; it devoured the other two.The 3 way test with the GTR 911 and m600 was great also but i would have loved to see a 1/2mile or 1mile drag race or maybe a run from 30mph roll as it does not show the M600 at its best on a short run.

Used to really dislike 5thGear but I've really started to like it over the past few years. As a car show for petrolheads it's far better than it's rival on BBC. It's also great to watch 3 talented (well except Tiff ) drivers going hammer and tongs round a track as apposed to just driving into each other doors being "funny" week after week. I've got to hand it to Discovery they've made it a much better show than C5 not that that should be a surprise. It's just a shame people who don't have sky/virgin can't watch it.

Where there's a will there's a way I've just watched it on my laptop . Only about 42 mins long though as someone kindly deleted the adverts before sharing.
I echo your sentiments , series after series it just seems to be getting better.
I really enjoyed the Porsche / Nissan / Noble test . I was really hoping the Nissan would win the last event as it's the only one I could conceivably own any time soon. I've wanted one since the day they were released , I came close to ordering a new one but the waiting list was too long at the time and ever since a combination of sanity and austerity has held me back .
If certain things fall into place later this year I may at last have one of the early ones on the drive.

Both the head to head challenges GTR/Porsche/Noble and the 370Z/Mini showed cars really being pushed to the limit and I really enjoyed them. Plato looked like he was only just hanging on in that Mini, some really fantastic driving.selym said:

Still looked like a kit car though.Squadrone Rosso said:
The Drayson speed record run was last summer tooPersonally I thought the 911/GTR/Noble thing was rubbish. Completely pants.
The cars do not compete with each other. They all appeal to different buyers. No mention was made of the difference in prices.
And the ethos and design objectives of the cars are completely different anyway. At a push, you could legitimately make a story of the Porsche vs the GTR and how they look to do the same thing but at different price levels. But involving the Noble was just plain stupid.
The Noble is an analogue, low tech, hand made super car. Comparing them is idiotic.
Poor show IMO.

That was the point of the test, very different cars with different strengths that end up actually very close on a race track. They all appeal to different buyers. No mention was made of the difference in prices.

It wasn't a buyers guide.

I completely disagree. Thats exactly what the man-on-the-street who'll never be able to afford one of these super cars wants to see....3 of the them facing off against each other. The cars do not compete with each other. Yes, perhaps potential buyers might find it irrelevent but not the majority of the rest of us who want to see these things compete against one another over 1/4 mile and then again over 2 laps. Great stuff.
It's what Top Gear used to do so well.

It was stupid.
In the next episode, using this line of thinking, they will compare a Volvo to a Range Rover to a KTM X bow and try to decide which is best. Stupid.
Given that they had all three cars, it would have been much better to have a piece comparing the Porsche to the GTR and figuring out if one was worth 2x the other - a very legitimate test - and then have a separate drive of the Noble.
Not one person on the planet considering a GTR is going to think "oh, maybe I should get a Noble instead". They may have well tested my John Deere lawnmower and compared it to the Porsche for all the value and interest it offered.
Silly programme pandering to 11 year olds.
