Can't Pay? We'll Take It Away!: Ch5 9pm
Discussion
It's not my field, but I understand they ask the district judge for permission to send case to High Court for enforcement. They then send the bailiffs to chuck the tenant - no notice anywhere in this.
If they ask the local council they will assume county court procedure who will tell them that they will receive notice of possession date.
You can't really argue that it's unfair as these people should pay their rent, but it is certainly unjust.
And Paul seems to be genuinely a nice guy. Hopefully not just for the camera's.

Bloody hell that guy at the beginning was a proper psycho - a genuine nutter who wasn't just putting it on. Yet within a few minutes he was as good as gold (and he was fine with the other sheriff throughout).
And if the blinds company really did rip him off he didn't look like the type of man who would just let it lie.

I didn't watch the program and don't understand how it works but surely if you get to that point you must have had warning after warning after warning? If they ask the local council they will assume county court procedure who will tell them that they will receive notice of possession date.

I've said this before.
I think it's wrong that the HCE route is used for eviction with no notice. I can understand the lack of notice where they are looking to seize goods, but I really do think there should be a 7 day notice on the evictions.
It may vary depending on the type of tenancy but, AFAIK, the bailiffs give plenty of notice, both to the tenant and to the Landlord. The LL usually has to make sure a locksmith is there to swap the locks over.I think it's wrong that the HCE route is used for eviction with no notice. Did feel sorry for the Army vet. Northern Ireland, Falklands and the Gulf and he is on the scrap heap. Something not right. I do agree he will have had time and warnings.
Don't forget the ex Army man was a volunteer. He signed up for the Army. No one made him do it.I am sure that when he volunteered he realised that he would be liable to serve in areas of conflict.
Tonight @ 9pm.

Can't Pay? Benefits Special
A special edition of the documentary series exploring the work of High Court Enforcement agents, focusing specifically on moments in which they are called to recover homes, goods and cash from the people often considered the most vulnerable in British society. Among the cases highlighted are those of a single mother struggling with debts totaling more than £45,000, an aggressive debtor recovering from a brain tumour who refuses to pay his dues, and a hard-working young nurse who is desperately seeking a home for her young family, but is facing opposition from landlords who are not keen to let their properties to people dependent on housing benefits. Part of the Britain on Benefits Season
