What's everyone's thoughts on NowTv? I might sack lovefilm & go with NowTV's movie package.

Cool, changed my account to disc only. Now only £2 per month (unlimited, one disc at a time). However I feel it will only be a matter of time before they bin the disc by post service.
I agree, I get the feeling Lovefilm By Post is on its last legs, a real shame if so. It must be far more expensive to maintain for them though, and streaming tech is pretty good now.

Just a reminder to double check your credit card for this, as they seem to have been deliberately vague on the charging. I was on Lovefilm, and when they did the transfer in to Prime video I checked the settings to make sure I was just paying for discs-by-post. There was only one charge listed, which was the disc service at £4/mth, so all good.

I've just had a card statement, and there's an separate monthly charge for £5.99 for the prime which as Chris says above you have to end by itself. That charge is never shown in the Lovefilm settings.

It's not about the tech for me (although getting the discs is great for my parents, whose rural "broadband" struggles to hit half a megabit) but the release dates. Films are always, always available on disc before streaming.

If they got rid of the discs, I'd resort to torrents again tbh.

Something I've found with Prime streaming is after 2or3 streams in a row, such as acouple of episodes and a movie, Prime really struggles and begins stopping. Initially thought it was my broadband but I can flick straight onto Netflix and no bother!

Anyone else have a nice Christmas present from Amazon this morning?

Seems my current package is no longer available, 4 discs a month for £2.17.

So they're switching me 2 discs a month for £4.07 a month.

Not exactly earth shattering but they're halving my package and doubling the cost!

We've not been churning through many discs lately so I think it's time to cancel altogether.

I'm out.

They're clearly trying to shut the service down.

EDIT: How to cancel URL - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.h...

Same, being changed from "Unlimited (1 disc at home)" which is £2 per month to "Light Use (3 discs a month)" at a whopping £5.99 per month.

Frankly I've been expecting this ever since they lowered the price to £2 for refusing to get Prime included. It changes in February so I'll get through as many discs as possible (and finish Elementary Season 2) in the intervening weeks and then cancel at the end of January.

Not me, I've just voted with my feet. Had an email that it was changing to 7.99 from 4.

Likewise - £4/month to £7.99/month from 5th Feb 2015. I think that will be it for me.

I'm undecided. £4 a month did seem ridiculously cheap, and £7.99 doesnt seem excessive. I'm running out of stuff that I want to watch though.

The Amazon search facility made it harder for me to find anything to put on the list.

Been watching this fro the sidelines a little this year as I have Prime and no interest in the streaming side of things, only got it for the delivery.

The interesting thing for me is that my membership runs until the 13th January so plenty of time to get the Christmas things in and then cancel the renewal.

Next year I will be 'pay as you buy' on Amazon and will be reactivating/renewing eBay and PayPal accounts. I'll make a note of the postage charges through the year and see if I am better or worse off with Prime. It will be interesting for me as I have defaulted to buying via Amazon as a result of having Prime until now but this will force me to look at eBay and do my on line shopping in more places which is also likely to lead to savings.

Good move Amazon, thought you would have rethought things over the year but sadly you seem to be getting worse...

I am thinking of cancelling my whole Prime account.

When I send back the Love-Film discs, they normally don't show as returned for a few days afterwards, meaning we get two discs per week.

And the one-day post service has gone completely to pot, even before the usual run-up to Christmas, next day delivery really means 3-4 days delivery, with about 1 in 10 parcels never arriving altogether.

I am beginning to miss our old ritual of popping down the video shop to choose what to watch, and I now use the local shops for stuff I used to buy off Amazon, the products don't cost substantially more...

I think Amazon has grown way to big to cope with it's paid for services.

Exactly the same for me, I've been waiting for them to do thes. So I will be finishing the show that I'm watching and canceling as soon as possible in the new year. I've struggled to find the time to watch some discs, so obviously not a major issue for me

Mine is unlimited (3 discs) at £7.28pcm changing to unlimited (2 discs) for £7.99pcm from 1st Feb 2015... so a slightly increase in cost and a 1/3 drop in quantity given the turn-around time.

I've all ready cancelled my Prime subscription because of the Instant Video st which i dont use, and to be honest i've not used LoveFilm that much recently either, so this has just prompted me to cancel that as well. Great move Amazon!

Exactly the same here - more money for fewer discs. Cancelled streaming a few months back when they split the costs out now they are just trying to piss everyone off so that they can wind down the 'by post' service.
