I agree that Amazon should have kept the two separate, but for me, even the £79 per year is a bargain as we all use Amazon a lot (It's kind of replaced HMV and Waterstones for us).

We have a full-blown HTPC under the TV, so watching and streaming from Prime was no problem at all. We have had many different gadgets over the years, including TV's that promise the earth for online content, almost all were a let down, hence a PC instead. (It also holds a backup of our entire DVD/BR and music library with no further compression)

We did enjoy watching some stuff off Prime last night, and the streaming quality was superb - and we only have telephone line broadband, not cable!

Pretty much that ^^^ without the HTPC.

OP posts says doesn't work with his Samsung smart tv. Ours straight in and decent quality streaming on normal broadband adsl we don't have cable to us yet.

Same on phone laptop etc.

Seemed remarkably easy to sort out and ime Samsung Tvs are notoriously arsey in respect of streaming content. Reminder to self must ditch my pos WD drive and organise something that works properly.

We had Prime anyway so we get this free until end of September so enough time to evaluate and see if the content improves.

Clearly you have to keep an eye open as the free to prime content seems to be mixed in with the other stuff.

On my Samsung UE6300 went into Smart TV fired up the automatically installed Lovefilm app which have never used in the 18 months or so we have had the tv.

The app updated. Signed in with my Prime membership. Watched an episode of the IT crowd as a test. Stopped rewound fast forward etc. No issues.

I have zero interest in Amazon prime streaming, I just want my 1 day deliveries for £39.

That's one more customer not renewing. wkers.

I'm happy to wait for stuff, so I always get free delivery biggrin

I won't be wasting my money on any 'streaming' service.

I got a couple of films for 99p from Blinkbox and it works OK, but I'm happy to wait for films I'm not bothered to see at the cinema to appear on TV! smile

Hmmm, if I can get the disc-only option from LoveFilm for £4/month they might keep my business. If they force me into streaming, they'll lose it.

Thats me too, so from December (prime renewal date) i'll either pay a bit for next day delivery or take the lottery of whenever it turns up.

I've had an email from them, Monday IIRC.

It said that streaming is removed from my package - the same as yours, and the package price is being reduced by £5.99 accordingly.

So, unlimited discs, 2 at a time for £4 a month.

smile
Yep that's what's happened for me smile
Wouldn't mind that email myself - could use a saving. I've got the unlimited discs/3 at a time subscription - had it for years. Hardly ever use the streaming service as there's sod all choice on there. My Virgin box has a better range and that's saying something. That said at least it works on my Sony telly....but not on my Android tablet.

Edit : just checked on amazon and it says under my Lovefilm account that the next payment coming out of my account will be £7.28 - not much more than half of what it was. So maybe the saving is already applied?

Edit2 : that's cos they've enrolled me in the Prime service at £5.99 a month on top. So I cancelled that! Nice - it's allowed me to chop off the parts that I didn't want. Weird that they do this with their video rental service but force streaming on a free package delivery service!!

My renewal is in May, so have switched off auto renewal from then.

This could turn into a disaster for Amazon.

Why would they think people that get deliveries overnight would want a film streaming service, doesn't make any sense to me. Watch this film or you wont get your parcel. confused

Blockbusters never insisted they delivered all my post before they would rent me a film. Maybe thats why they went bust. idea

I checked what my package had changed to aswel, I was on the 2 discs at a time unlimited rentals per month with online streaming and xbox.

It now says I have prime instant streaming for £5.99 plus £2.17 or something like that for rentals by post so I may just do as you and cancel the prime bit as I rarely use it on my xbox as it's rubbish for new content.

I'm undecided on this.

Love my Amazon Prime account (worked out that last year I ordered from Amazon no fewer than 54 times, so well under a £1 per next day delivery).

However, don't really want the streaming service (especially considering we have 1mbps stty broadband).

At the new £79 a year, based on last years use I'll still only be paying £1.46 per item so it's still cheap.

However, I see this as Amazon realising that Prime isn't profitable so they're basically upping the price and trying to fob you off with the streaming crap in return.

Just been to the Lovefilm site, and it bumped me over to amazon, what a fking mess their site is!

On the old Lovefilm site I could choose what films/boxsets I wanted posted to me, I can't now.
On the old site I could prioritse. I can't now
On the old site I could see what I'm actually paying for, guess what? Yup, I can't now
Considering I have an Amazon account And a Lovefilm account, they seemed to have lost my delivery address for discs to be sent to me. WTF? I though only government systems were that bad

Think I'll be cancelling and going to netflix

This what I was thinking too, but Amazon's solution is both stupid and dishonest, so screw 'em irked

I too found it really difficult to navigate but did find my Lovefilm by post account under account management.

Is it just me or is it difficult to find out what stuff will cost.

If using the Samsung TV app then it's clear as crystal what is free on Prime and what isn't plus what it will cost.

On laptop or ipad less clear what is free.

Also the picture quality is fine on the TV but distinctly poor on the laptop

Is there some way of selecting quality like you can on YouTube?

When you add in the fact that their own 'Amazon Logistics' company is dire (in my area at least) and frequently don't deliver in any reasonable timeframe, I just don't think Prime offers value any more.

I ditched it a few months back and just now I just make sure that I buy fewer, bigger things (or wait and combine orders) to get the free (albeit slow) delivery. Cuts out the impulse purcahses, at least.

Having now looked at all the titles free to stream on Prime, I can say that at least 95% of stuff is beyond bottom of the barrel material, especially the films. What you see on the main Prime page is literally the best they have on offer - scratch the surface, and it's all down hill from there.
