To be fair I'm fairly sure it wasn't as clear in the past. I signed up to it without realising, they set Prime as the default shipping option so i must have just quickly clicked though an order without checking. I only found out when they started sending me emails telling me I wasn't using Instant video some months later.

I wasn't too bothered as the fast shipping was good over Xmas, also I got to watch Vikings which is good, I have cancelled the renewal though as I certainly havent got £79 of value from it.

Apparently, as well as all the pop ups prior to confirming your order when selecting the Prime option, they also send you an email afterwards to tell you you've signed up for it.

Heh, they even mention the confirmation email in the story. Basically, people are idiots.

I blatently use more than £79 of shipping each year, i just never use the streaming service and resent the fact you can't choose a post only level.

The print is small on my PC but in the case that my missus had it was done on a smartphone. How prominent that is I don't want to know but You may be right that people are idiots and for a unscrupulous company like the tax dodging Amazon it is easy to get money out of idiots.

Ditto. What I noticed is that with Prime shipping I was spending more at Amazon. So by raising their charge in this way I've cancelled my membership and reduced my spending.

Latest Amazon by post envelopes are plastered with Ads for the Prime Streaming service.

They're blatantly putting the pressure on to get rid of by post. First the price hike and disc reduction, then sticking what they want us to change to in our face. I'd be surprised if Amazon by Post rental exist in a year.

Shame if so, as I've had 10+ years of Lovefilm and it was my main source of film viewing.

Just finished watching season one of Bosch and the pilot for Man in the High Castle. Its all quality stuff. I'm tempted to sack the TV licence and take down the TV aerials.

Yes, we've watched both of those, and Black Sails, which I thouroughly enjoy.

In fact, I can say hand on heart that we watch more content from Amazon Prime than we do BBC - and the Amazon payment is entirely optional.

I've just watched all 3 series of Ripper Street and probably watch 2-3 films per week through it.

While I've been working away it's been a godsend (once I worked out how to use VPN for watching it abroad).

I think it's great, and very good value for money.
Plus I've discovered Sons of Anarchy.
