This Friday?
Sorry no it started last Friday (its a six parter telling one story this year I believe rather than 2 part stories ) the first episode was last Friday (its on i player)Its an hour but it doesn't seem like an hour more like 45 minutes well acted superb photography no decent cars unfortunatelyThe BBC really seem to be very half-hearted about Shetland.
I can't recall anything else on peak time being so messed about in terms of scheduling.
It requires a bit of attention too, so the constant delaying of episodes just makes it harder to remember who everyone is and what they know and or did...

Does anyone else not like this series? Maybe it's just that I have close links with Shetland and don't like seeing it portrayed in such a miserable way but I keep trying to watch it then switching off half way through. And surely they could have found some local actors or at least got the mainland actors to have a bash at a local accent, or does the BBC still think that everyone in Scotland speaks the same?
I'm actually the wife of jumpy guy and a Shetlander born and bred. I know people from the islands who have been in it as extras, plus at the end of the day someone who isn't an actor really shows up on TV, and I suspect would give the accidental impression of shetlanders being a bit slow and dim compared to the characters portrayed by actual shetlanders. I have no problem with the accents as shetland dialect varies massively from one end of the islands to the other, plus it's weakened since my youth what with most youngsters going to a scottish city to study for a few years at least.
Re the topic, I think it's the first one that's realistic and plausible. Shetland, like many small isolated areas has drug problems, and people do get relocated there for mental health or social reasons. I'd rather see it portrayed as a real place than a tweedleeweedllee nirvana that just happens to have lots of murders.

I agree. My mother in law was born on Shetland, my wife was brought up on Shetland, I worked there for 16 years and both my kids were born there. There are many varied accents and drugs have been a feature of life for a long time. Don't get me wrong, I love the place, but it's no Nirvana!Re the topic, I think it's the first one that's realistic and plausible. Great to hear that. I've been to most of Scotland many times but never got over to Shetland - it's now on my 'to do' list.Re the topic, I think it's the first one that's realistic and plausible.
