I just came across Game of THrones and saw its rating of 9.5
I think that's the highest I have seen.
Anyone better, or get close, to it?

I just checked The Wire and am scandalised that it's only a 9.4/10.

For films the top place is shared by The Godfather and The Shawshank Redemption with 9.2/10.

Game of Thrones is pretty amazing but I don't think its a 9.5/10....

Vikings is taking the lead over Game of thrones from a personal point of view, only into season 2 but it's stepping up a gear and the budget must be tiny in comparison

They hide it quite well, but IMDB does actually have a chart for it's films:

http://www.imdb.com/chart/top

Not sure if they have one for TV programmes though.

Google found this list - http://www.imdb.com/search/title?num_votes=5000,&a...

Doesn't include Band of Brothers with 9.6 though (well over 5,000 votes) so it isn't complete.

IMDBs top 250 films only counts votes from a specific set of its regulaor voters 9or it did) there are lots of films with lots of votes that are not on the list.

Haven't seen BB so cannot comment, but GoT is amazing, deserves it's 2nd place, probably should (or will be) 1st.
Out of that top ten the on that sticks out for me is the new Cosmos...it's decent. I am guessing because it is new and on a free channel in the USA (with little to go up against), it has such a high place.

GoT is certainly not amazing. It's a slow, badly written, medieval porno with occasional gratuitous violence and a penchant for adding bizarre fantasy creatures. But only occasionally.

Cosmos is only so popular because the US has a hard-on for Neil deGrasse Tyson

Breaking bad is genuinely very good.

All IMO of cause wink

After a few years relating on IMDB ratings I just know it's irrelevant.

Can't agree with you regarding GoT - one of the best TV series' I have had the fortune to watch - but Cosmos! I had high hopes for this, but being US produced, and with Rick Berman's help, I should have known better - it feels like it's aimed squarely at middle school American children - way too sugary and. much like most US documentaries, the US is mentioned a lot throughout. I cancelled my series link after the third episode.

Episode 4 of true detective is still rated at 9.8. Which is the highest I've seen on there.

The Raid 2 was rated at 9.7 for ages but has dropped down now.

That the one where they go on a mission with the bikers? That was edge of seat stuff.

Quite. GoT is another level.
Cosmos, I also think was judged a bit too low, but then that is probably what makes it universal as well.
I do like the cartoons in it. biggrin

I watched an episode last night (well half I left the room), I just can't see why this is so popular?

There are some lists of the highest rated individual TV episodes, the top 100 is things like House, The Wire, GoT, Person of Interest, True Detective, and Breaking Bad.

Breaking Bad has a 10.0 and two 9.9's. See http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0903747/eprate

GoT is rather good but BB is just about the best TV show I've seen from the US. At the very least on a par with Sopranos (only no BB episode is a filler or filled with a dream sequence)
