Funny that, i had an ex plod SD1, SE trim and badgeing, but fitted with a manual box and twin plenum EFI, a second alternator and battery, etc (it was not a marked car either).

Afaik, most were ordered like that, the story that theirs was a one off seems somewhat fishy.

I think they said it was the only Vitesse with a manual? Something like that

It was the only one ordered by Grampian Plod, not the only one ever built.

Likely the only one left now though......

Enjoyed the show, but can't figure out why a Grampian car would have an Inverness registration number. If they ordered the car from the factory surely it would have been registered at an Aberdeen (Grampian) office.

Ah yes you're correct. However, just checked the wiki for SD1's, apparently there was an auto option but they withdrew it to lure people wanting auto towards the Vanden Plas

There are plenty of manual 3500 Plods around. A customer of ours had one back in the late eighties, a 1980 V plate one - CYW479V iirc. It had Minilite alloys, different brakes and was a special build car based on a 2300 with basic trim and no Nivomat rear suspension.

I thought the programme was a bit crap tonight. Droning on about Daimler Darts, some bloke who rode a motorbike like a prat back in 1879 and virtually nothing about how they rebuilt the SD1.

I have to agree, there really wasn't much work on the actual car shown at all. What a let down.

I agree, jumping from them striping the shell to an immaculate engine bay.
Don't get me wrong, most of the other stuff was interesting and relevant to the SD1 but I would of prefered to of seen more of the actual work and hurdles on the car.
I was hoping to of seen a bit more of them fitting all the police gear back into it at least

Three City of London Triumph 500 motorcycles were used in the run along the Commercial Road. Two broke down (unaccustomed to speed) and the other was the lead vehicle. The rider, one Sven, said that he was irritated by a delivery motorcyclist who pulled away from him.

The drive was legendary. Everyone talked of it.

Same here, the Dart stuff was all irrelevant filler, ended up FFWD'ing (watching on catch-up)

I'll have to ask my Dad if he caught this episode as he owned a white ex-Grampian police 3500 SD1 back in 1981 (a 1979 5 speed manual). I was only 10 but I remember it still had all the switches on the dash for the blue lights and siren which I thought was pretty cool.

Shame it was a rust bucket by 1983.
