I haven't waded through the whole thread to check but does anyone know if all these cars are being sold at the same auction at the same time?
Disregard the question. I have just found the answer on the previous page

said this before, he might be a good actor, but he's dire as a presenter.

Absolutely no charisma on camera, and does not even seen at all into cars.

BBC management will love him though, if they do try and use him to front TG, it will not only kill off TG, but likely his own career too...
BBC have already killed off TG......they just seem oblivious to that fact laugh

Just watched this weeks.
Excellent episode on the hot hatches, and a load of dust blew into the room when they revealed the buyer biggrin

I think I'd have strangled glennister if he'd slammed a car door of mine the way he did on the silver gti

Hi Guys I hope you don't mind me clarifying a few things. I am Walters partner. It was my Dad who bought the yellow rally car at auction. There was no fix by the TV companies at all. My Dad genuinely went to the auction and bought that car without anyone's proir knowledge.
The reason he did this was because he'd come to realise how much this car had come to mean to Walt and under the circumstances it's something for him to look forward to.
The reason the car was up for sale in the first place was that I didn't want it sitting in the barn for Walt to look at everyday and not be able to do the work.
Walts passion for cars knows no bounds he's been passionate from a teenager and I hope he now gets the time to enjoy it thanks to my lovely Dad..We will keep you all posted...

Thank you for coming on here to clarify things, it was a lovely end to the episode.
How is Walter, is he able to enjoy the car?

Many thanks for posting. This episode was the first of the programme I had actually seen and whilst I found Glennister a tad bland, the guy fixing ths cars seems spot on, and it was a wonderful story with your father buying the car at the end. I hope Walt is thoroughly enjoying the GTi!

Thanks everyone, Walt has had a stem cell transplant since the show and has been poorly but he's fighting back now and it should give him more time how much no one actually knows. In the meantime Walt and his friend John Morton A&E turned the car into a Group2 rally car. It will go to the Bradford Classic Rally this year and then hopefully to Portugal for the Portugal Historic Rally. It's also been invited to the AGM for the Mark1golf owners club as well as many other events. We are just waiting for the Recaros rally seats to arrive and to fit the group4gravel AP escort brakes..then it will be track tested and set up by Walt and it's all systems go..

Seems appropriate to post one of my favourite ever TV ad's

Brilliant attention to detail

Did you notice when he came out the shop and bumped into a woman on the pavement on the phone, the size of the brick she was holding to her ear.

Having seen a family member go through a stem cell transplant, I know just how unpleasant it is.
I wish you and your partner all the best, and good luck with the golf.

Finally, your Father seems an absolutely top guy. He made me cry!

In a cynical world where we all suspect that a story has been concocted for the cameras it is lovely to hear that this was a genuine act of supreme generosity and kindness. Please pass on my best wishes and thanks to Walt for letting us share his journey with the car and to your Dad for his selfless act. Love and positivity.

I agree, very similar I feel to when Idris Elba (who is superb in Luther) did the 'King of Speed' documentary, he just came across as a 'bit awkward'.
