He is an actor, and he is acting and following the shows script and direction, just as he would in any other TV production.

Philip Glenister is there as the 'lackey/ man in the street' role in order to be 'educated' by Ant about the car, much the same as the average non-PH viewer would be.
The best bit of this weeks episode (other than the end) was seeing the Golf LS, only for the fact that it was absolutely identical to my first car - same year and colour. Mine had a Weber carb upgrade so was a little faster, it showed a clean pair of heels to my mates MGB GT at the time so you can easily see how the GTI would have killed off cars like that.

Thanks everyone, Walt has had a stem cell transplant since the show and has been poorly but he's fighting back now and it should give him more time how much no one actually knows. In the meantime Walt and his friend John Morton A&E turned the car into a Group2 rally car. It will go to the Bradford Classic Rally this year and then hopefully to Portugal for the Portugal Historic Rally. It's also been invited to the AGM for the Mark1golf owners club as well as many other events. We are just waiting for the Recaros rally seats to arrive and to fit the group4gravel AP escort brakes..then it will be track tested and set up by Walt and it's all systems go..

I hope he has many fun miles in the car One of the bits that bugs me the most about the show is that with every car they seem to have "10 weeks to get this done or it's all over" yet all the cars are going to the same auction. That means either Ant has 10 workshops and teams and he works on every car at the same time for some random reason or that the time constraints are done for dramatic impact.
Glenister detracts from this show.
This format needs for the lackey to have enthusiasm, otherwise it makes no sense as to why they keep appearing for 'random' meetings at burger vans hundreds of miles away. Oz and James, Salvage squad and Suggs are classic examples of when it at least appears to work.
The idea of waiting for Ant to 'arrive' at the same spot in the auction car park week after week for what is the same auction doesn't work.
Seeing the way Ant has got on with the previous two owners makes me question Glenister's role more. In this situation, the lackey should maybe play the more 'human aspect' role, but it's clear that he's more awkward at this than the mechanic.

Certainly 10 workshops are available. I heard that Type 2 Detectives may have had a hand in the Golf, for instance.With all due respect to Ant, there is no way he could run umpteen projects himself. He has to sub the work out to specialists.

It's a shame so many TV shows adopt the 'enforced deadline' format. At least these guys have fallen short of the stunts pulled by Bernie and Mario, such as the 'dropped' screen or 'engine fire'.

I also don't think Glenister should have any input into the final product, he doesn't appear to know anything about them or to truly appreciate the history behind them.

Ok so I mentioned it before. But. It's not a car show. It's not supposed to be about the car. It's supposed to be about Social History, and the impact some cars have had on that. As such the car itself is not the focus, the people who have come into contact with the car in one form or another, are the intended focus of the show. Glennister really drags the show down, just growls like a grumpy dog for the show. Ant would do much better just getting on with it on his own. They might show a bit more of the resto too that way thought there was a lot of filler in the show with that Southend crap or that rather strange old woman. Would much rather have seen what Walt did with that engine instead.
