Does anyone who likes cars really watch Too fast, too furious? Surely that's like someone who likes spacecraft watching Thunderbirds?
I know I don't but I was pointing out to the lad who said he didn't enjoy the programme and didn't like old cars that there was something else he could watch.

Shame really, but if you don't understand how iconic the mk1 mex or the Mini Cooper or the Landy is then you really shouldn't be on pistonheads .

What a brilliant photo - it seems to encapsulate the '70's perfectly!

I was 9, but still remember vividly that long hot summer of '76.

£41k for the S1 Landy! Now I like them as much as the next man, but are they really worth that sort of money?

Can't stand the actor/presenter. Not enough of the actual build shown. Much prefer Wheeler Dealers.
Anything without Mike Brewer in it is surely a bonus? Philip Glenister is no where near as annoying.

Quite enjoyed the programme for what it was

I think they were quickish cars for the day. Especially compared to your average Avenger or Maxi.
Did I mishear, or did he say at one point that the Mexico's 0 to 60 time was 12 seconds?

Presumably impressive in its day - but that seems ludicrously slow by today's standards. Shows how far road car performance has progressed over the last 4 decades.
You could buy a 2002tii and it would hit 60 in 8 seconds.
Most Mexico road tests achieved 60 in the mid 10s to be fair, not 12.

As Mark says a BMW 2002tii would do that in the low 8s, but if you wanted an Escort to achieve that and couldn't stretch to the BMW price tag you could get an RS1600 which would do practically the same. For a few hundred quid on the new price in those days you could get it to 150bhp which would give you 60 in 7seconds. Quite a lot of Escorts were modified as well

In fairness, a MK1 RS2000 would be quicker and the old Pinto is nicely tuneable. Stock I think it's about 9 seconds?

Yes, they usually tested at about 9.1/9.2 - and, as you say, easily tuned

It was very watchable but I agree that the split between history / fans and actual restoration was very uneven. It was almost like Wheeler Dealers reversed.

This was so much better than Leepoo and his chums.
