IS that it in that auction ? Coys website says it went for £23,600.

How much does that engine build cost I wonder?!?!
Good buy for someone in todays market!
Certainly looks like it. I guess the "modified" element means it's nowhere near as attractive as a mint original spec car (even if it is trigger's broom).

IMHO a lot better than Classic Car Rescue - but then ANYTHING would have been.
When it started going down the "spotlights and stripe" route I nearly switched off, but thankfully it went the originality route.
For what it was I thought it quite a good programme. Agree with earlier comments and would have like to see less car park japes and more of the real resto, but they are trying to appeal to the masses and I'm an engineering geek.

bloody hell at the price of that DeLorean

eekeek £48k eekeek

I see the odd DMC going through the auctions and even in mint condition they usually never get above £20k

I watched the Fiat 500 restoration and then I cheered myself up by watching the Escort program again on 4seven after smile

I remember seeing the Harris' at Santa Pod in the 80s

For anyone who didn't see it by the way, it's on again at 8pm tonight on Channel 47 on Freeview
Caught it this time. A substantial improvement over the execrable Classic Car Rescue but still no Salvage Squad.
I would have liked more detail in the engine building process especially. How much glossing over was done to (staged?) keep HPE "secrets" and how much due to dumbing down?

Glenister is a mildly engaging host and not too many staged panics,

regards,
Jet

Some motoring writer (possibly Quentin Willson?) once bemoaned the fact that 'Back To The Future' has elevated DeLoreans way above the level they deserve - he said they were horrible things.

yes, would have been interesting for you and me.....but then again I guess a lot of viewers wouldn't be too bothered. Suffice to say, it would have been pushing out more than standard - been nice to see it up against a standard car as per the Harris vs standard Mexico run!

Agreed.

Was Harris using some sort of gunk on the mains to see how even they were at one point?

I loved the sound of the tuned versions, and the Harris version in the run looked a bit, er, mobile on each gear change.

I think Car SOS is a better program. I imagine the makers of this series are hoping to cash in on the 'Life on Mars' connection? It may have helped get a better time slot from the scheduler too?! I totally get that not everyone wants to see in depth mechanical detail, but nonsense about a car being straight if the bonnet fits, while holding a tape measure on some random points, is almost insulting. No doubt that both MK1 and 2 Escorts are cracking cars though and personally, I prefer them when they've been modified by their owners. I've always seen my E21 as a better made MK2 Escort, with the added benefit of IRS obviously. wink

They did avoid at least the Discovery Channel usual thing of fake arguments, crisis and deadlines only just being met.
God yes. That really gets on my tits - Fast N Loud, Extreme Car Hoarders, Battle Machine Bros, Sons of Guns, American Guns - all the same formula, exactly as you describe.

I enjoyed For The Love of Cars and found the documentary side of it with the history of the Escort a nice break from the usual formula.

There does seem to be rather a glut of car restoration programmes at the moment though. Not that I'm overly complaining.

Mike Brewer put a childish (and hastily rewritten) comment on the Wheelers Dealers FB page shortly after this aired tonight, about this being a 'copycat' show, then went on, without a moment of irony, to say they didn't account for the labour involved in the build!

Yes agreed on the fake deadlines if i was a successful resto outfit and some CEO approached me with some whizz bang project but was only giving me 2 weeks to do it in i'd tell him I'm not the man for the job. obviously for TV you cant do that but for once id like to see Richard Rawlings/Aaron/Coddington/Foose etc telling some joker to get lost with that silly deadline. You want quality you gotta get in line, and wait.......

Salvage Squad was a good show with the right balance.

Well I enjoyed it - and I think Mr. Glenister does a better than average job as the laissez-faire presenter...

Did anyone else notice the BMW in the background on private plates that resembled the retired copper's surname?

I have to say, having owned a few Escorts in my time, quite a few friends and I moved onto E21 323is for cheap fun cars when the Escorts got scarce and a bit ropey. You could have the same sideways fun in them ( but I wish they'd made Z3 racks years ago as the steering was arm-twirlingly slow after an Escort quick rack!! )

Wasn't the Police Escort on a Kent registration too, rather than a Liverpool one?
